'By appointment only'.   Not in the least pretentious.  A bit disappointed in Mick and Dan for promoting this kind of elitism.
    No Darling....I've had that ages.

I’d read ‘By appointment only’ to be something along the lines of ‘give me a call and I’ll open up for you’ rather than elitist.
Manning (or womaning, let’s be equal ops here) the place 9-5, Mon - Sat may not make financial sense.  It’s not as if they are shipping Squier box sets for new starters, so passing trade isn’t really a huge consideration.

I met Mike at IGF one year and he was the furthest thing from Snobby, pretentious or anything of the sort. He was a class act and really down to earth. Shame on anyone slagging him off and resorting to name calling.

A divorce. But only IF you buy the vintage gear first.

After just about making it through half an hour of that while putting strings on a guitar (with non-locking tuners, what torture that was) I can definitely say I do not like guitars as an object anywhere near as much as these guys or you guys who enjoyed the full 2 hours.

I absolutely love them as a tool for making music and the sound they can make gives me immense depths of enjoyment.

But spending hours drooling over the subtleties of how the finish has worn away on an old guitar and inspecting the details of them - I'm definitely not a part of that world.

I have to say they all look rather nice but I’m gonna say it. Isn’t all this a bit like the emperor’s new clothing? I mean I’m sure a modern day well made instrument would sound the same but at half the price tag?

    There I said it lol

Having played a bunch of old instruments at the Fretboarders meeting a couple of months back and really wanting to feel what you stated, I can only say absolutely not. Was gutted that my LP with replica PAFs and 50s wiring didn't sound the same as the 50s LP I played.

They each in their own way had a depth to their tone I have never heard in a modern guitar. You might not like that and it might not be appropriate for every musical application and could easily be masked in certain setups so could well be wasted, but it was definitely 100% there.

The fact that we lack the language to or science to accurately explain it to someone who has not experienced it does not mean it isn't there.

My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

^ just a matter of time before we start on this one again.....

IMO yes and no. On the one hand:
    Nothing new quite sounds vintage.

    On the other:
But why the fuck does everyone want to sound vintage? Because SRV, Hank & Jimmy Page did?

Two of the greatest strat players ever, Hendrix & Gilmour used relatively mundane strats with non-holy grail pickups.

Edit. To be fair the magnets in pickups do get weaker with age, so to get that vintage sound perhaps it would be necessary to lower one's pickups a tad, or fit weaker magnets.
