 :o - aged 75, after a short illness.  What a fabulous actor!

What was that one where he was a hitch-hiker who couldn't be killed?

    That’d be The Hitcher ;-)

Don’t forget the great Guinness ads.

Sad news. He was excellent in Nic Roeg’s Eureka (must watch) and many other movies.

I guess he'll be best remembered for Blade Runner, but I love The Hitcher.

I never did get round to watching those early Paul Verhoeven films.  Maybe it's time I did.

I first saw him in Ladyhawke with Matthew Broderick (I was a kid) and then Bladerunner, The Hitcher and Flesh + Blood.
"Hobo with a Shotgun" is pretty good too.

    RIP.

Bladerunner is one of the epic and influential films of my life. Rutger was just incredible in the role. I need to watch it again now ...

I also have a real soft spot for a pretty naff 80s film called Crossworlds that he starred in. It's that weird thing where you see a film at a certain age and it just appeals to your inner self somehow.

Blade runner and flesh and blood will be my main memories of him, one of my favourite actors, always reminded me of christopher walken.

Not forgetting his star turn as Van Helsing in Dario Argento's Dracula 3D.

On second thoughts, perhaps that is best forgotten.

I saw him in ‘I think it was called wanted dead or alive , I can’t remember if gene simmons was in it too. The one where he’s a blind wanderer with a samurai sword is good too, and one where he says a couple hit him in their car and didn’t stop in Mexico then worms his way into their lives and terrorises them. He’s in one too where he’s in a prison where you have an exploding collar attached to your neck. He’s flipping ace

Bugger.  I’ve only just seen this.  I met him once, in a hotel near Brecon.  He was filming something up there and I was working on a problem with the hotel’s network.  I was under the reception desk and heard someone so popped up to be faced with Rutger Hauer!

We had a long chat and he gave me his mobile number.

No... hang on...  I remember....  I said “Sorry, I don’t work here, I’ll get someone” and he said “OK”.
