Now has darkened board and slightly aged inlays so less stark looking

For 335-alikes you could do worse than a Tokai, a bit different but Gretsch do centre-block models as well but ones I tried were heavy.

This is my authentic Eastman, in their fancy Antique Varnish (low sheen) finish along with aged hardware, it looks new yet worn in at the same time, quick a trick to pull off. It has a big centre block so feels reassuringly weighty.
The Seymour duncan Pups are very smooth with a clarity that I've not heard before (in my house anyway).
Despite the questionable headstock (which I managed to get beyond) I chose this guitar over several big name alternatives knowing full well it's now worth sod all second hand, but I honestly don't care. I've no intention of changing it.
Lovely instrument to hold and play, imo anyway.

Just love the cherry red colour! Don't know what it is but I always associate a 335 type guitar with that. I think I have too many red guitars anyway! (3).

What SD p/ups are in there by the way?
It has a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity pups. They're superb imo.
Ah nice, are they P90's or humbuckers? As I previously mentioned before I have an LP Junior which has P90's which gives it a nice jangle but a bit too punk!

It's not often I get to show my big, pink semi off...

I've seen the green versions of these and always been curious. How is it?

I've got a few, this MIJ Ibanez AS200 from 1980 is the king of the hill.

Best bang for buck is my MIK Tokai ES60 with Seymour Duncan 59s in.

MIK Epiphone Sheraton with MIJ Tokai pickups is very nice too.

And this Wilson from the late 60s/70s scratches my @HarrySeven oddball itch!

I had one of these years ago.

Cheap, with definitely cheerful build-quality/QA, but perfectly fine once set up and fettled... :)

    Yamaha SA800 and Tokai UES60.
The Yamaha I'll never sell and the Tokai was an impulse ebay purchase just to see if I would like semi-hollows - and got me hooked.

A 2013 Gibson Midtown Custom in Tobacco Burst, probably the cheapest way to get on the Gibson Custom ladder, these go for around £800-£900 dependant on condition:

'62 Casino borrowed a couple of years ago. I haven't been asked for it back yet and am keeping a low profile.

Will I have to spend £500+ to get a good sounding one though? I know Epiphone is known as the "poor man's Gibsons" but these days guitars are better and some play quite nicely.
Not sure what these cost, as it is borrowed, but it's an original one from 1962 in immaculate condition, is fabulous to play, so expect it will be similar value to a Gibson 330 of the same date. If your budget is about £1k, and you like a 335, a secondhand Yamaha SA2000 would get my vote

  • Probably won't want to spend £1k on one, mainly would use it for teaching first and foremost maybe a few gigs with it.

Thanks, @Chris_J  - it's an ES-275 with the rarer P90's. It does seem to be pretty rare - I saw this one for sale over a year ago, and by the time I'd got round to thinking about it, it had disappeared and I assumed that it had been sold. Then I saw it on here recently, being sold by the excellent @Brize and had to have this guitar, which I do think is beautiful.

Oddly enough, in the meantime I had bought a 1959 ES-225, which is a similar concept (2 x P90, hollowbody) and thought I preferred that, so I put this on sale briefly. Then I discovered that I just bout preferred this one after all. Bloody hell, I'm boring.

    Call me Dave.

It is indeed a lovely thing. Those no-number speed knobs are a thing of beauty on their own.

Had a bunch over the years but for me the absolute best value for money guitar I own is a Peerless Hardtail. I converted to the bigsby and it can now do it all. Will go for some coil splits the way PRS/DGT do it and I’ll not need another electric.

I'm liking the bigsby quotient here. I don't know why they bother making TOM guitars without them. Fold it away if you don't like it ;-)

Very nice, would like one of these myself and love the colour. But its not quite a semi as only the top half is hollow, the bottom half is solid.
