I’m thinking of getting a mild relic refinish done on one of my Strats. It’s a partscaster with a US body and Jap Fender maple neck, which has a thick glossy finish. I’m going to go for a road worn type finish on the body...a few worn edges, some minor dings, mildly matted. It already has (genuinely) dulled down hardware and aged plastics.

What I’m not really sure of is how much wear there should be on the neck? A lot of the relic necks I’ve seen have been done with extreme wear, down to bare wood with that V shape of finish left at the headstock. I’m not sure I want that degree of wear, and is it actually realistic?  Anyone got any pics of what a reasonably well worn neck looks like, or can link to some? Google images throws up lots of heavy relic’d necks but not much else.

Thank you kindly.
