A couple of years back we had a roof leak (due to the lead flashing between the chimney and the roof tiles being defective). This was all repaired but did leave a damp patch on an interior wall whch forms part of the flue/chimney. Although this has long since dried out the paint is discoloured where the damp was, and painting over the area seems to be only a temporary solution - in a short while the new paint will also discolour and darken. My understanding is that this is a common problem where there has been damp and that sealers are available that can be painted over the previously damp area before repainting and that this should fix the problem. Only thing is I’m not sure what I actually need to ask for. I assume this sealer has some name.
Any help much appreciated.
i don’t want to redecorate the whole hallway/landing area if I don’t have to. The amount that needs sorting is actually fairly small. Also, the paint was painted over a textured wallpaper and I’d rather not have to repaper.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I’ve also used a paint on one not much in it for me and the spray is easier.
