Seems to be an in-depth guitar course online by the great Tom Morello, loads of different videos and sections and I assume would be a terrific insight into a unique player with a style completely independent from the usual classic rock pentatonic themes of normal online guitar courses.

That it is hosted by the man himself seems to be the (morello) cherry on top of the cake.

£170 seems reasonable to me. CORRECTION appears to only be £85 per course, £170 gets you all the other subjects as well

Thought it might be of interest to you lot here as well in case you hadn't seen it

Does look interesting. There’s a Carlos Santana one too although from the clips it looks more about performing/writing so more relevant to those trying to break into the music business professionally.

Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

People always take the piss but his style is instantly recognisable and one of the most original guitar sounds of the 90s-00s IMO. He's not just about imitating the hip hop noises as well, he can do normal solos as found in Take The Power Back and Darkness of Greed. And all those awesome riffs.

  • When I first glanced at this I thought it was genuine and my gut reaction was... Lord I bet that is excruciating to watch. Then I watched it, saw it was meant to be amusing, and it was even more excruciating than I imagined!

I do find it slightly ironic that someone who was fighting against the capitalist system, is now commercialising his knowledge that he could just as easily share for free.

I guess everyone is a communist until they have some money.

For all we know he's giving every cent to charity. Of all the rock stars that could be accused of being corporate sell outs, I'm not sure Tom is high on that list.
All the right notes, not always in the right order!

  • I didn't really want to get drawn into the idealogy of things like that, but my uderstanding of capitalism is that it is based on the exploitation of others to make money, not simply sharing your knowledge and skills for a fee. I also didn't think he was a communist, but a socialist which is different (not what British newspapers would have you believe!). And you don't know what he's intending to do with the money he's getting from it, he might be using it generously and not for his own gain.

I think I'll sign up when I've sold a few more things and have the time to get into it properly

  • This looks cool! Was looking into it.

Side note, I play in RATM tribute band the Machine Rages On, if anyone needs any Morello type tips I'd be happy to help.

Another side note, I got on stage with Tom himself earlier this year!

It was always ironic that they were a major label band anyway. They were just selling rebellion to the geekier teens who paid attention in economics class.

The most ironic thing was when there was that big "rebellion" against the X Factor by making them Xmas number 1 even though Simon Cowell gets the money from them anyway.

Would be funny if someone paid the money and get all set up ready to start the course then realised they don't have a Whammy pedal.

I'm actually not a RATM fan as such, but am interested in it because most courses seem to channel you in one very samey direction and I don't like that, I've no use for it. I play garage rock and slightly jazz-flavoured singer-songwriter stype stuff, but Morello is such a force of creativity and has a very different style to the usual online music course that it is way more interesting to me than it would be even from some people within the styles I play (unless Jack White or Nick Zinner did one of course!).

Pretty cool to have shared the stage with him though, did you get to talk at all? I imagine he'd be quite engaging

Agreed big time! It can't take a huge amount of his time and effort to film a few videos and host them but then I again I don't really expect anyone to do something for free it's just nice when they do, especially when they have (or possibly had) a stance such as Toms.

Synyster Gates has a tonne of free stuff on his site and charges nothing for it, legend.
