So, these arrived...

The Squier Deryck Whibley Telecaster is a bit beat up (and in need of a setup - it also has one mismatched machine head), but plays pretty well ‘as is’.

The Epiphone LP is a different kettle of fish - I’ll let the pics do the talking...

Ouch!  Not seen that trick before - screws through the 'board to hold the neck together!

You seem to like buying guitars with broken necks. If I snap the neck off the one I'm selling would you buy it?
Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.

    Yes.

Seriously, though...I really enjoy tinkering with stuff, particularly if I can rescue an old guitar along the way.

Also, I'm learning new skills - woodwork was never a thing with me when I was younger, so picking up the relevant know-how along the way means I'm not worried or freaked out when things go tits-up with other guitars.

  • I'd be sticking some kind of an oil city P90 style pickup into that Squire! I have an oil city P90 single coil in a tele esquire style partscaster and it's lovely

I'm all for showing fellow forum members some respect, but Mr Seven would have done, I'm sure.

Huh. So Deryck Whibley is a real name. I thought it was a joke name. I'm obviously out of touch. That's what I get for losing interest in popular beat music.

(Good luck with the rescue missions!)

    Indeed.

According to the owner, it was originally "just" cracked and subsequently "repaired" by some local furniture shop(!)

Later, it suffered another blow which resulted in an actual break - there are fracture lines all over the place, the headstock now wobbles around a fair bit and if you shake the guitar, the truss rod rattles about.... :open_mouth:

Love the Tele...I've just tweaked it a bit and it plays well, now - it'll be great with a fresh set of stings and a proper setup.

I'm just wondering what to bung in there instead of the Duncan Designed HB...quite like @Creed_Clicks idea of something P90-ish... ;)

Huh. So Deryck Whibley is a real name.
Fit a false moustache, glasses and a bowler hat. Rename the thing after Deryck Guyler.

Dr. Who fans on this forum will be jealous that you persuaded a Sontaran to photograph the Squier. ;)
    Be seeing you.

    Update - as I'm a big fan of Hohner JT60's, I wouldn't take much convincing... ;)

I’m ashamed to confess that I’ve done that to an old Yamaha acoustic guitar that I bought at a car boot sale. I carried out the “repair” some years ago and still have the guitar and the neck is holding up fine despite looking terrible.

That's doable ... not economically viable, but as a fixer-upper, grafting another upper neck section on isn't impossible. It's a pretty guitar, shame to bin it ...
