Greco Rickenbackers

There’s a Greco Rickenbacker copy on eBay. Not sure if it’s 100% accurate as it has neck binding and 360 inlays. The tailpiece also isn’t the ‘R’ one but some rickenbackers have a similar one. Anyone got any experience with these? I hear good things about 70s Greco LP guitars. The listing will likely be taken down soon though as it’s listed as a Rickenbacker copy. I should ask about them on the rickenbacker forum to see what they say  ;)  http://www.rickenbacker.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13370&start=10

Here’s the one I’m looking at. Am I likely to get one cheaper? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rickenbacker-copy-by-Greco-1970s/264430940735?hash=item3d914ff23f:g:h8oAAOSwzUVdVDfI

  • I´ve heard of the Rockinbetters. You´d see them pop up a bit in Ireland used. Not sure of the quality though.

I've had one and quite liked it. But I've got close to no experience with real rickenbackers to be honest. So I'd hardly be able to give you a decent comparison.

It definitely sounded like a Rickenbacker to me and the construction was good.

I eventually sold it to a friend of mine (who still has it, and was selling it recently), but purely because it wasn't my type of guitar.

    It looked similar to this:

  • I had one. Prefered it to any rickenbacker ive tried. It had a proper nut width so was easy to play

How wide would you say it was compared to a strat? What year was it? The seller on the one I’m  looking at says it’s early 70s but using the serial number says it’s April ‘77.

I don't think you would get a Greco Ric much cheaper except getting that for a good best offer. They are generally the best copies out there, much better than old Shaftesbury, Rockinbetter or Jay Turser.

The one i had was early 80's. I can't remember what i was like compsred to a strat. It was about a decade ago.

Yes, John Hall at Rickenbacker will ensure anything *fake on eBay or anywhere else that even sounds like it might be associated with the brand gets pulled ASAP. Fair enough as it's his company.
I have a Tanglewood TW61 that is fitted with genuine Hi Gain pickups, tuners & harness & bridge, that I bought from a Jam tribute band player, also have a handmade 360 style in solid maple that is also very good, both with 'normal' nut widths.
Rockinbetter's had a good reputation for quality at a price point but like with most such items, you can't beat the real thing.

Greco are probably the top of the tree as far as the vintage Japanese Ric copies go.
