Did you have a sporting hero as a kid?

Mine was Bjorn Borg. My mum always had Tennis and Cricket on TV, and I was generally a fan of long haired sports stars. He just seemed so cool and awesome, and I loved watching him win Wimbledon every year. John McEnroe seemed like a complete turd of a human being and I loved to see him getting his ass owned.

The year John finally won - what a disaster! I was absolutely gutted! I didn't watch tennis again for years.

As it happens, I really like John as a pundit now, and the same for Jeff Tarango, another spoiled brat of a player back in the 80s.

Brian Jacks, I had no clue about judo, but he always totally caned everyone on Superstars, so that made him boss of bosses.

Although, Geoff Capes, I likewise knew feck all about whatever throwing event he did, but he rocked Britain's Strongest Man.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

I liked Superstars. I always remember David Hemery who was one of the regulars for years. I think he had been an athlete/ runner but I just remember him off that.

My parents used to organise a carnival every summer. Brian jacks was the celebrity guest one year and gave me a pound to go to the hardware shop and get some turps so he could clean a ketchup stain from his gi.

Me too, I guess.  I wasn't massively into sport as a kid but I loved Superstars, especially the gym tests.

Pole vaulters were always good all-rounders on that - Kjell Isaksson and Brian Hooper.

Being from Cardiff there was J.P.R Williams, Mervyn (Merv the Swerve) Davies, Gareth Edwards, Gerald Davies. Saw them play several times in the greatest team Wales produced. My grandfather had debentures....
