They might be playing bebop or swing, but have a look at some of the chords Jem is using.
He's a pretty jazzy dude.

Check out the different lineups of Acoustic Ladyland. They started out as an acoustic quartet playing Hendrix tunes and over the course of four albums morphed into a wonderfully fuzzy, gnarly electric jazz/punk/thrash band. Saw them live loads ten years ago.
