I agree with some of his points. You definitely don't have to be flying all over the fretboard.

However, metal has a lot less flashy bass overall compared to the more 'modern' punk scene from the 90s onwards.

Bass is often the 'lead' in that type of music.

It might have been wiser if the humour had arrived after the important/useful message. 

I had hoped that the traditional route of demoting the fat/ugly/talentless/hanger-on to bass guitar was a thing of the past. I took up bass guitar because my brother flat out refused to try fretless. I bought one and played nothing but fretless for over ten years. 

As you can probably guess, my brother was (and still is) the "meathead" who will not rehearse or maintain his instrument properly. 

The presenter specialises in Metal. Some of his opinions and recommendations may not apply to other music genres.

The video guy displays a highly guitar-centric perspective. He knows what he expects from a Metal bass guitarist BUT he has no intention of attempting to play the instrument himself. (He probably considers it beneath him.)

Yes, some of the content is tongue in cheek but the overall tone is likely to make any self-respecting bassist run a mile in the opposite direction, leaving Bigmouth with exactly the sort of shoddy bassist he abhors and/or deserves.

What annoyed you about the video @Legionreturns ?
 
FWIIW I thought that what the guy said made a lot of sense.  So to get a Gold Standard Opinion, I asked my wife to watch the video.  Which she did.  Mrs Rocker is not a musician though she played piano as a child.  But she listens to a lot of music, mostly classical, so she knows her stuff.

Her opinion was that, while the delivery was crude at times, what the presenter said made complete sense.

So where is the problem?
