I'm not quite sure how I'll fund this yet, but if nothing else I thought I'd start by seeing if any of you had a D-50 in a cupboard somewhere unloved and unwanted since 1989.... Figured there was an outside chance given the age demographic! (include myself in that).

Would consider a D-05 too.

I'd have a D-05 + a MIDI keyboard 100% of the time over an old D-50. Has all the old ROM cards "preloaded" and the sonics are virtually identical. Good luck!

It's the "virtually" that gets me! such a snob. I fully understand the merits of the 05 over the 50, but having the real instrument, keys and all, has a bigger appeal to me at the moment.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

'undreds of em out there. We used to sell 'em by the truckload...

Seriously... *not* rare. And until fairly recently about as desireable as a grey knitted tank top.

yeah I know. Prices are pretty good too. As for the desirability, horses for courses. Very powerful synth that has it's own voice, even 30 years on - That's a big tick in my book. For around £400 or less it's a no brainer.

A lot of the same sounds are in the JV1080 module... for a lot less money and it does *a lot*

XP-80 is a JV sound engine. i.e. ROMpler technology.

D-50 is a combination of that and digital subtractive synthesis.

    fiddy or bust.
D-550 would be my choice. PG-1000 would expedite patch tweakage.
    Be seeing you.

No joystick on the 550 though, and a PG-1000 makes it spenny!

Plus depending on your age, the d50 has a certain nostalgic appeal because of what it looks like as an object / the impact it had when launched.

I'd love one if I had the space.

Yeah, the space is a slight issue... I’ll worry about that as and when I get one!

Dude... arms on the chair. Ergonomics! How are you going to retain your posture if you can't push your chair all the way in?

I tend to only sit there when mixing if truth be told, and then I usually sit with the keyboard on my lap. I stand most of the time I'm fiddling with synths.

D-05 is what you want to
be honest. You don’t need anymore keyboards

Plus, as it’s a preset queen, there’s no point in having knobs. Plus the d-05 will take all the open source patches easier than using systex

Na, 50 is what I want... but I’d go for an 05 if the price was right.

    Hi GavRichList
I found my D-50 in a cupboard where it's been for many years. I plugged it in and it still works,  one key is a bit intermittent but it does work. It also has six Roland Memory Cards (although two are the original factory sounds so five different ones) and two P.A Decoder Cards and a flight case.
Open to offers for all or bits and pieces.
I cant get any photos to upload but this is a link to them.
