YouTube algorithm strikes gold: Pentangle performing Willy O Winsbury on ITV in 1972

I’d never heard this song before, despite having listened to a fair bit of Jansch and maybe one Pentangle album in the distant past.  What a wonder of performance and song.

The trad melody is refined to perfection and how about that judiciously placed Am chord (looks like Am add9 at a glance, using the open strings ) Renbourn plays!

    A brilliant set. The Pentangle Facebook page is good value. You might also enjoy the BBC performance:

    @Litterick ;

    Thanks: I watched the BBC performance, an early Norwegian one and one for Granada TV last night.  It’s incredible to have access to these recordings of a great band freely available on YouTube.

    I do find that their songs fall into a few camps: folk ballad, jazzy freak out, groovy folk-rock tune, straight blues number.  So far I love the folkier stuff - the blues covers are a bit ‘low effort’ and too much jazz discombobulates my chi!   ;)

    I need to see about getting hold of some albums now.
