Gap under fret?

Hi all!

Just got a new guitar (ESP LTD 200 series) and it looks like someone may have slipped with the saw on the 17th fret and left a small gap along the middle of the fret slot. I can't feel it when playing, and the fret seems solid- is this likely to cause problems later on?

Thanks!

For sure, I'm just not sure how well it'll show up...

  • I’m not surprised tbh. They haven’t moved with the times at all. Back in the 90s everyone was wearing their hoodies but they just aren’t relevant now.

Took me longer than I'd like to admit :)

@themeinside - it's unlikely to cause you issues but I'm sure you'd have no issue exchanging it for a different one. If it bothers you now it's only going to bother you more with time.

    I'd take that straight back.

Unfortunately it's the last one in the shop and pretty much the country as far as I can tell, so I can't really. As long as the fret is going to stay in place, I'm not too worried, it's a lovely guitar otherwise.

    Superb.

  • Nope- looking carefully from another angle, the actual FRET is cracked on the body side of the fret. How much would a single fret refret run to?!

In that case, try taking it back to the place you bought it & request that they get the fret redone, or they agree to cover the cost of you having it done. Worth a try.

Is that a mark that is from the fret moving away, or is it woodgrain?

A cracked fret?! That's pretty rare I'd imagine.

It's a tactile crack, I can get a nail in it. I have no idea how it happened. Good plan @Kittyfrisk, I got in touch and we'll see what they say. At least I have DSR!

It looks like a fretwire manufacturing fault.

It's unlikely to give problems I think and if you otherwise like the guitar, I'd keep it.

I couldn't live with that, sticky out fret ends annoy me enough in cold/warm/dry /wet weather, get it fixed by the shop, or get rid. As time goes by it will bug you more and more--and you will regret it.
