There they go again with the ‘estimates’. What the hell is the point in even putting them on there. Stick a 0 on each one. He’s certainly not David Gilmour level of revered but still a highly regarded and hugely influential guitar legend.

Why are the estimates so low?

Sure the publicity doesn't refer to Gary Davis, another guitar legend?

  • I might be wrong but i think their was an auction by Bonhams or Christies back a few years ago that had most of his more well known guitars. Looks like most of the good stuff sold then.

Fair point but it’s still some cool gear in its own right. Even if it’s not some of the instantly recognisable pieces. All items will still go for well beyond the pointless estimates as, even though he may have barely used or even knew he owned them, they are from his collection.

Bit like the Gilmour auction... here we have the 127th Strat of this lot that he probably doesn’t  even remember owning, estimate £1k, sold for £40k. Obviously won’t be on those levels but you get my point.

  • I’m inclined to agree with other comments that suggest that the really good stuff has gone. There’s not much of interest to me in this auction.

Completely agree with the comment regarding the ‘estimates’.....but there will be people out there wanting to buy a piece of Gary’s kit irrespective of the 20% buyer’s fee on top of the ‘Gary Moore Companies’ VAT of 20%......so basically whatever the hammer price is add another 40% on top!

It's called "come and get me" pricing.

Auction companies often do this to draw in the punters.

  • I think it’s actually the opposite and the estate have kept hold of the “good stuff”. There have been some nice guitars sold but not the 62 strat, not the stripe 59 les Paul, not the 62 335, not the 63 345.... etc etc you get my drift.

Lots of the guitars in the Bonhams auction were quite reasonable: VOS Gibson custom stuff for sub 1500 including premium. Will wait with bated breath for how this one plays out

I'm sure he didn't need quite so many amps...

The cabs look like something I actually need! Might go for one of them.....Happy to pay a few £. I met him a few times when living in Brighton and he played my CS LP upside down like a god! I'm a leftie....Lovely chap.
If I had talent, I'd be talented.
    Red meat and functional mushrooms.
    Persistent and inconsistent guitar player.
A lefty, hence a fog of permanent frustration

Not enough guitars, pedals, and cricket bats.
USA Deluxe Strat - Martyn Booth Special - Electromatic
    FX Plex - Cornell Romany
