Price check, 2013 Fender Custom ‘63 Relic Telecaster?

Hi chaps,

I’m a bit out of the loop on Fender Custom Shop prices. I’ve been offered a lovely 63 Relic Tele in trade and I just want to make sure I’m not putting too high a value on the guitar. It’s Dakota red, quite unusual in this colour, weight is a tad over 7lbs, really dark rosewood board, 9.5” radius, 6105 frets, all case candy and black tolex logoed case. Floor Traveller checks out. I do want the guitar.

What do you think its value is on a trade?

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks for the input chaps. It’s a hair over this, but not much, but I like the guitar so much I think it’s going to be worth it. I may take a small hit on it later down the line if I ever decide to part with it, but that’s going to be some time away I hope.

I'd be a little more conservative on this- 1800. Relics are in oversupply, IMO.

I agree 100% - I see many advertised over £2000 but not many sell...

Shops would tend to ask 2200-2300 now for such a guitar - Especially with hand wound p/ups - So anything around 2K ish is a good price - Anything below is a bonus

Buyers market at the mo, I’d go with £1800 too

  • I'd say trade value would be 2,000 - you can low ball trade value to 1,800 but then the person with the Tele will then expect you to value your stuff lower too.
Since Fender increased their cs guitars to 3,000 plus, used prices have gone up.
Trade versus cash sale always makes a difference too - although I don't want to start a debate on that topic :-)
    Good luck with your trade.

Ok, £2k seems to be consensus on top price. It’s coming in at £2.1k so I’m still going to do it. It’s a cracking guitar and a spec I’ve been waiting for for some time.

Finally one of the 2017 Rx’s will be leaving.......and then there were two....

    cheers chaps.

I think that's perfectly reasonable if you actually like the guitar as an instrument and want to keep it, then +/- 5% is moot compared to if you were just trading to flip later.

How's the Tele @Ossyrocks?  I tried this the other day.  A really lovely Tele but I hope the price makes you feel good about your purchase.  I love the '63 pickups - sound just right to me.

There is Custom Shop, There is Custom Shop. Relic's definitely are worth more, also Telecasters are worth more, especialy 63 in that colour, I'm sure you won't regret it.

The deal hasn’t been done. Lots of communication, but once the deal was agreed, it all went quiet. I’m finding this happens a lot these days.

How annoying.  Interesting what you say, I've had a lot of that too.  People don't seem to care as much about being honourable.  Sad.

Ha, the Tele turned up on Facebook today being advertised by a part time dealer who has obviously taken in trade and is now moving it on.

    C’est la vie.
