It isnt laurel - and GuitarGeek62 has it. Madagascan rosewood, though it rings like brazillian and has the dark webbing too. Not especially common these days, and may have CITES implication, but then it will never be sold by me.....

Once i pick it up from Mr Ryder, I'll do a proper NGD :)

Interestingly, ICbM, i have an acoustic B&S set in granadillo, and it has a very simillar glassy ring to it when tapped.

To be honest I struggle to see why there is such resistance among guitarists to non-'rosewood' varieties of the dalbergia genus woods. They are all quite similar from a functional and tone point of view, and a lot have more interesting grain and colour.

I wholeheartedly agree ICBM. Even discounting the rosewood-alike tropical timbers, theres a large array of UK and European species.
I have 4 planks of laburnum at home, that with judicious planning will yield 2 or 3 guitar back and side sets, if you dont mind some sapwood (i dont). For instance.

DrBob - well, the funds arent there yet, but i strongly feel that a dark-blue metallic unbound LP with cream P90's is in my future somewhere :)

P90fool - well, technically there is more than one wood (mahog neck), so, sortog ply ;)

Sorry, completely wrong colour for ziricote. Ziricote does have the black webbing, but much more 'landscapey' and grey/black/cream/purpley colours, rather than reddish orange.

    Anyway, its madagascan rosewood :)

Highjacking the thread and seeing as we’re playing guess the wood...

10 points if you can tell me what wood this is and a bonus 10 if you can tell me what it was used for!!!!!
