Which way are the taps in your house?

Hot on the left, Cold on the right or vice-versa?

Mixer tap owners can play too if you have one of those central up & down to adjust the flow and left & right for temperature valves.  If you turn it anticlockwise for cold then that counts as cold being on the left.

Whenever I’ve had a hard day’s work and I see one of your random posts it always cheers me up!

  • Left or right from my point of view or the tap’s point of view?

Thanks mate    You should see inside my head....  The crap that floats about in there - it's like the waste compactor from Star Wars.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

Left or right from my point of view or the tap’s point of view?
Lol! This just led to a funny conversation with my wife about whether the spout is the tap’s nose and it’s looking at you, or whether the spout is it’s tail and it’s looking the same direction as the user. Deep thoughts.
Always be yourself! Unless you can be Batman, in which case always be Batman.
My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.

  • Yeah always taught hot on the left, however my Grohe mixer in the bathroom is the other way, due to location, could have connected the feed pipes the other way, but the dots on the tape weren't removable.

Weird how it's because most are right handed, if I'm holding a toothbrush in my right hand, I'm going to reach to turn the water on with my left.

Having stayed in thousands of hotels (or varying standards from woeful to relatively nice) it's always hot on the left.

Hot on the left except when it is on the right.

  • We’ve just had our bathroom refitted and the hot is on the left. Can’t honestly remember if that’s the same as it was before.

However weirdly the two taps turn in opposing directions, not more righty righty/lefty Lucy. My wife assured me that’s correct for modern installations with separate taps both opening “towards the centre” but that messes with my brain.

Apparently the concept of Cold on the right is uniquely English and elsewhere in the world it's completely random

  • Hot left for me. At my mum's house it is random.

A mate of mine had a toilet flush connected to the hot feed, took them a couple of months to notice after they had moved in (brand new house). Plumbers eh?

Hot on the Left for the separate ones

The bath is a 2 tap mixer and the hot is on the left of that as well.

always left, socialist tap innit? That's why it's red.
Funnily enough, that's how I remember the orientation of navigation lights on boats and planes!  Red=Left.  Also port (the drink) is red so red=left=port.
Similar for me but it's about length (as if).
    Left
    Port
    Red
are all shorter than thier opposites.
    Right
    Starboard
    Green.

Anyway Hot left including the kitchen mixer tap knobs. That could be by accident because I installed it many years ago and the knobs and inlets could have been either way. I guess It just seemed right at the time, I don't remember thinking it through.

  • Hot on the left everywhere except the bathtub. Taps are clearly marked hot on left, cold on right. But some bugger installed the hoses the wrong way around. Been living here for a year and still run my self a nice icy bath sometimes.

All taps hot left except bath - the theory is that the hot tap should be furthest away from the edge of the bath, so that small children cannot scald themselves? ( said bathroom fitter )
