As long as there's plenty of wine people won't care if you serve Dairylea Dunkers.

  • Posh crackers, pickles and grapes obviously ( although I might be going a bit Fanny Craddock) plus whatever you've raided  from the supermarket shelves.
I did go to a wedding where the reception was cheese and crackers themed ( the wedding cake was a cheese, really) but this seemed to largely consist of pork pie and bread rolls for some reason.
I'd avoid cheese with fruit in, that's very hoi polloi. If you invited me I'd eat all the goats cheese.

Some Chaource, some Torte Dolcelatte, maybe, but actually almost nothing goes as well with a glug of Merlot than a good farmhouse cheddar.

My colleagues in France genuinely didn't know that the rest of the world made cheese, thinking that it was a French thing and that we all ate theirs. (Hey, chauvinism is a French word...)

I imported a wheel of Keen's Farm cheddar and they all thought it was the best thing they'd ever had with red wine.

All that said, you'll still need to go to Waitrose and just buy all the cheeses you've never heard of to keep the partygoers happy.

And this. Nobody who was ever proud of the quality of their cheese has EVER said "Hmm, what this needs is cranberries embedded in it".

As well as @EricTheWeary 's pickles and grapes, I'd add some dried apricots and some walnuts.

As for cheeses, I'd go for contrasts - Taleggio for soft and maybe Jarlsberg or smoked Gouda for hard.

I've got a suggestion; replace the cheese with beer.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.
Also chips are "Plant-based" no matter how you cook them.

Walnuts good shout, classic with French cheeses ( I highly recommend goats cheese, walnut and honey pizza).

The above.... plus Some caramelised onion chutney, a Camembert that’s making a bid for freedom, and something very blue.... a Roquefort would do nicely

I've found if you let a bit of stilton or any blue cheese go under the grill for just a short while, not enough to absolutely let it melt completely, then a whole new level of smoky flavour reveals itself, goes very well on a bit of roll with some nice fatty chorizo

Pear goes very well with cheese especially a nice hard English cheese like Cornish yarg (wrapped in either stinging nettle or garlic leaves) you can get it in any supermarket with a cheese counter.
Tomorrow will be a good day.
