Hi Everyone, I’m selling my 1959 Martin 00018, I bought this two years ago from Vintage and Rare guitars here in Bath. I’ve used this for several library music albums and many acoustic columns for Guitar Techniques magazine. I’ve loved owning this but have reached a stage where I’d rather have owned all the guitars I’d love to play rather than amassing a collection so a Gibson L5 or an old D18 beckon next!
Sound wise it’s not like any modern Martin, it’s crisp and dry with plenty of string to string definition and clarity. These guitars don’t give you a huge low end but are very sweet across the range – it’s instant Bob Dylan and Paul Simon or old time Country Blues. Here’s a video of me playing a piece I wrote for TV use to give you an idea of how it sounds.

These old 000s are spruce and mahogany and this one has had a neck reset so plays with a low action and great intonation. I think the tuners may be replacements but will have to check with Vintage and Rare. Overall condition is great, no major cracks at all, just one or two small lines that I believe have been cleated and pose no issues at all. 1959 was the last year they came with the soft V neck profile which feels great under my hand at least – a lot more forgiving than a Collings OM2H I had years ago. Plenty of life in the frets so it’s good to go for many more years.
Located in Bath, collection only as too valuable to entrust to a courier. Asking price is £3400, no trades thanks - images:
