While my mini 800 has been getting fixed I've been using a borrowed blues jr.

I'm not that keen on the sound, but I've been enjoying turning up to practices and gigs with a 1x12 combo.

I'm thinking of getting a 1x12 combo as a backup, and for times when I can't / don't want to bring  a head and cab.

What is a good quality marshally sounding 1x12 combo to keep an eye out for??

I'd have said the mini jcm800 combo but it's a 10" speaker.

    Origin 20c
    Jubilee mini combo
    Jet City JCA2112

    All quite reasonable second hand.

Marshall Studio Vintage SV20c is fabulous. Especially paired with an attenuator. regardless of its 10" speaker.

That said I have the head and a 1x12" cab.
My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

The 10” actually sounds fine if you listen with your ears and not the spec sheet. It’s a bit more focused than a 12 but still sounds good especially in a mix.

  • So the 10” speakers sound decent in the Marshall studio combos ?

There is no way it will sound as good as a proper 12” Greenback or G12H-30. It just won’t. Absolutely inexplicable choice by Marshall not to fit one.

Whether there’s enough room to cut out the baffle and fit one, I’m not sure.

I've recently bought an Orange Micro Terror - it's separate amp and cab rather than a combo, but it is bloddy good!

If there is then that might be the answer,
I know Zilla (or someone) could probably make a new combo for it, but that'd be big money I;d think.

Another vote for the mini Jube, given that you usually use a mini JCM800 it seems the perfect choice.

  • Looks like you can fit a 12" speaker in, someone on marshall amps forum has done it.

You can just get a 12incher in the Origin 20, I nearly did it but bought a head instead, so now have both head and combo...

I've got a Genz Benz Black Pearl 30 1X12 combo that has power scaling. it can do an amazing impression of a Marshall.  Not made any more but they come up for sale once in a while and are incredible VFm because no one has heard of  them.

It basically sounds the same as the SC20 on rhythm clip as well - you can dial them in almost identical.

Had the origin 20 combo for a brief time and the 10” speaker sounded great, if you didn’t know it wasn’t a 12 you wouldn’t realise

I'm sure I saw someone on ebay a while ago who was putting 12inch speakers into the 20c.     Much modifications required to the baffle board?

How about looking for a Peavey Windsor Combo ?

Usually found very cheap and a JCM800 sound to it.
