  • Many, many years ago Guitar Player did a series of posters, I think the Rock Oval was the centre piece of one on unusual guitars so it was on my bedroom wall for a couple of years.
The Wandre designs were a kind of skewed genius of the 1950s/ 60s. I don't imagine that they are great to play but they are fascinating to look at.

  • I was 'admiring' the body and thinking that although it's ugly af at least the top fret access would be ok... then I scrolled down and the headstock made me do an actual lol
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

Well, that certainly fell down the ugly tree and hit every branch face first! german I assume by the zero fret, the pickups ... and the very Hofner style fretwire bridge saddles. It kinda grows on you the more you look at it ...
    My mistake ... Italian
    It's also HUGE!!!

The headstock looks like it was designed for hand to hand combat  :o
From the patent sticker I'd guess Italian origin.
Apart from the 'artwork' and silly price, I recon I could grow to like it.

Is it really big or is the Italian goozer really small?
    Don't touch that dial.

Id still rather gig that than a Sunburst Flame Top Les Paul.

  • They’re never gonna get anything like that price for it!
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • At least that particular has it's own style.

I find guitars like Suhr, Anderson etc akin to charmless overpriced Harley Bentons and far worse to look at.  I'm sure they play fantastically well but I'd never pay such a premium price for such a guitar.

Unless Italy is full of midgets ... it's really big.

  • Dreadful – but for evidence those pickups can sound great, see Buddy Miller's rig.

It looks like a partsacaster, except that not all of the parts are guitar parts.

Absolutely huge. You can tell by the relative size of the hardware :).

I have to say I would probably take the Les Paul, but I'd say the same as you about any number of quilt-top/sunburst/gold hardware/birds-or-other-posh-inlay "high end" guitars - not just PRS, but some of theirs would definitely count...

At least that particular has it's own style.

... and so do most of theirs.

  • There was a Wandre in the shop I briefly worked in many years ago in Glasgow. It was a piece of absolute shite.

There's an Eastwood Wandre copy in Strung Out Guitars just now - it's probably a better guitar in every way than the original, but it just doesn't have any character. It looks similar but has generic modern hardware and electrics. Kind of misses the point...

Apart from the scratchplate that doesn't look like it belongs anywhere and the unnecessarily gargantuan headstock I don't mind it. It's a bit different.
