Perhaps one for the more experienced guys, Im getting some mild ankle pain when running and looking at both my gair and jsut general standing position, movement of the knee etc Im pretty sure I have supination. Question is should I invest in some running shoes catered to supinators or is it better to wait it out until I can go somewhere that can actually properly look at my gait an reccomend me?

Need to dig the bike out of the shed for a low impact alternative every now and again I think.

6x 5km runs for the week. Current weight 11st 12lbs.

50th birthday tomorrow so not to be 'fat and 50' will be a good feeling. I've got some nice new clobber but nowhere to go to put it on! Plans all obviously cancelled.

Have a great weekend club (wherever you've all got to)

  • That's great going @Deadman !

Through the lockdown so far, I've been continuing my usual routine of 3-4 runs (totalling around 28km) per week.  My target at the start of 2020 was 1,000km in the year; to date I've done 417km so well ahead.

My pace over the last three weeks has been around 10-15 sec/km slower than in normal times, which I put down to being generally less active (no longer cycling to the office, and even though I have an office job, a typical day at work would involve a fair bit of walking between meeting rooms etc.). Still, I'm not stressing at all about that - I've found getting regular exercise really helpful during these weird times, in terms of physical and mental wellbeing, so I'm just happy to be still able to get out and about.

Looking ahead, I'm hoping to do another half marathon later this year, assuming we're allowed out by then ...

After 6 months off and eating myself fat after my Ironman triumph, this "lockdown" has got me back on track. Currently running 2-3 times a week (so 15ish miles average). Had a week off thanks to my old faithful Asics GT-2000 5's giving up the ghost and cutting my ankle last thursday (after 300 miles, so I'll cut them some slack). Took a risk and not only ordered a new pair online without trying on, but completely switched brands and stumped for some Saucony Hurricane ISO 5's...First run in them this morning - difference is like night and day. Considerably lighter than my Asics and have good bounce to them - managed a very speedy (for me) 6.5mile run in the sunshine this morning.

Our local running club is doing virtual park-runs, recording times, leaderboards and race reports on facebook etc. Really good to keep motivation up.

Cheers @djspecialist you've got a great routine going there. And that's the thing isn't it? Routine. It's been the main driver for me since 6th January (when I started this current regime). Regular 5k's coupled with plenty of strength training (press ups mainly) has been really enjoyable. The day wouldn't be the same without a good old sweat fest/gritting of teeth. I'm also really taking pride in what I eat.

    Same as usual for me this week. 6x5km runs. And no injuries to date (thankfully). I might need some new trainers soon though. My Sauconys are looking shot. Ironically I was  looking at the Asics @joneve. ;;;;;

@steven70 skipping....that's something I need to try. Off to check some ropes out now.

That’s good stuff. I’m not running due to injury but I’m managing at least one form of exercise for 30 mins a day minimum. As always I could do with cleaning my eating up though.

For anyone looking at jumping rope this is a
    comprehensive tutorial.

I've been running a lot less but doing PE with Joe every day.

I'm interested to see what the effect will be on my fitness.

It's great that you guys are still getting some form of exercise in, it's not all about the running afterall. And by sticking one or two seshes in per day gives you a great excuse to sit around watching tv and drinking tea all day.

Cheers for the skipping link Steve.

I over probate, and My last 3 pairs of running shoes which have seen me so around 1000 miles, were Asics GT series (2 pairs of 1000’s and a pair of 2000’s). Never had any issues with them, but the last couple of incarnations of GT2000’s have got only average reviews (they’re currently on 8’s. My last pair were 5’s which were considered great and then they changed some of the main features). So I decided to take a punt at a change and picked a pair from SportsShoes.com which got good reviews and the Saucony Hurricanes seemed to be a step up in terms of the level of shoe (they were being compared to the Asics Kayano which are the next model up from the GT series for support shoes).,

The difference is obvious. The Saucony’s are lighter and feel like a better quality shoe all round (so far)

That being said, it’s early days and I’ve done a lot of miles in Asics! So I’d definitely recommend them. Their neutral shoe selection is good too, and there’s some bargains to be had.

If you haven’t yet, check out reviews of shoes you’re looking at on runningshoeguru.com. He gives really good detailed reviews, and made life easier for me when choosing.

5 more miles last night and the new shoes are an absolute breath of fresh air. It's amazing how much difference they make after the old ones have broken down.

It feels effortless to run now and definitely less achy on my back etc after running than I was with the previous shoes. Glad I changed my mind and took a gamble with the Sauconys (having previously ordered a replacement pair of Asics GTs which I subsequently cancelled after sleeping on it and re-ordered the correct pair)

Did my first sub 30 minute 5k today with, if the Wahoo app is to be believed 600m of climbing*

*the app is not to be believed; the run was flat with 25m or so of climbing. Still pleased with the time.

Nice work! It's great when you reach a goal or milestone you've been trying to aim for.

Just made 5.2k today in 35 mins. I started a couch to 5k at the start of lockdown and this is the first time beat the 5k.

Best I've been able to run for prob a decade so although it might not seem like much I'm pretty pleased with it.

Been a while. How's everyone getting on? I had to have 2 weeks off with a painful achilles and just started again last night. I just wasn't bothering to stretch out and paid the price. Lesson learned.

My problem has been 5k in 30 minutes is feeling too easy now so I was upping it to 10k in faster times. I'm now back to 5k in 30 mins and will ease myself into greater speed/distance.

In other news, I've got some new Under Armours (slung my Saucony), doing 100 press ups daily with planks thrown in and down to 11st 6lbs (from 14st on 6 Jan). I'm the lightest I've been in around 25 years. Even 32 waist jeans are starting to feel loose. As good as it feels it's a little inconvenient as my new wardrobe is all getting too big for me.

Rain and cooler weather on the horizon; runner's heaven (or should that read haven?)

Like @Deadman I had a couple of weeks off due to a pulled muscle. Just back from 2.5k and it felt OK
