Fender launching Tom Morello Signature Soul Power guitar

What's Hot
stonevibestonevibe Frets: 7140
Looks like there is a high chance that Tom Morello is launching a Soul Power signature model based on his Audioslave era guitar.

Pics of him playing it turned up this weekend at his guitar clinic. I wonder if it will have an Ibanez Edge trem like the original?

  • Seems a strange choice for Tom - he’s not exactly big on this type of cash-in normally, but it’s an iconic guitar so I certainly understand the interest!

I feel as if buying an off the shelf copy is the least RATM thing you could do, when Morello’s main guitars have typically all been heavily customised for his personal taste.

That said, it’s at least a nice interesting model to have a signature version of.

Been seeing a lot of outcry about his big corporate endorsement and it being announced at his $899 guitar masterclass retreat thingy.

It's hard to reconcile a career dedicated to sticking it to the man with that sort of stuff, and add in his Twitter rant about a restaurant and its staff refusing him entry (it was at max capacity) and general rumours about his demeanour and you wonder if it's all gone to his head a bit.

You wouldn't catch Billy Bragg doing this shit!
My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

Billy made his money songwriting big selling singles for Kirsty McCall so didn't need to...(perhaps).
And Billy did tour endlessly through the 80s & 90s.

Not sure about that. Google suggests a net worth north of $25m. That's firmly into 1% territory. I don't begrudge it at all, but let's not make out he's a struggling artist!

I'd bet my house that Tom Morello is worth a shit load more than Billy Bragg.

    Not buying one is.

Fender: "Check out the new Tom Morello signature guitar"
Guitarists: "F**k you I wont do what you tell me"

He's not even in the top 10% of good players, is he?

He is a great and original player, but it is clear he isn't sticking it to the man anymore. But, I'd do exactly the same. I suppose he is using his instrument as a platform for more people to play guitar etc and have a say.

I wouldn't put any faith in those websites, they seem to be just click-bait. Unless you want to believe that Limmy is worth 6 million (he isn't) - https://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/richest-comedians/limmy-net-worth/

  • I like the guy... and he has a degree in political sciences from Harvard, so he is kindda informed to talk on these matters.
I've got all the Audioslave tab books and it's great to be able to play all of there songs and solo's. I like his style and technique because it's so accessible and beginners can do a fair chunk of it.
Hopefully, he adopts a socialist mentality with the pricing and does a made in mexico type thing and not a £1400 USA  thing.
He has fun playing and it's great to see, he'll record a solo and the engineer will be like 'Tom, stop F*cking about and play the real solo' Tom just smirks and say's that IS the solo!

Check out this video: it's Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt, Rcichie Kotzen and Tom. They're all shredding away (except tom) and Tom just does his thing and smirks and the other guys love it. It's not all about the licks and the speed of the licks. It's about having fun!

I agree, hence knocking 10m off the value I actually found before I posted. I still don't believe Morello is poor. The top 1% in the USA is an average income of $421k per year. He might not be above that every single year but I stand by my point.

  • @jeromegreenday it’ll likely either be a Fender Japan special run, or a Fender CS model. Either way I’ll be impressed if it’s below £1k, albeit if only because new prices seem ott nowadays.

Well now it's out and he makes a good show of it here:

    Two things:
    1) it has locking tuners and a Floyd rose. Why?
    2) his "unapologetically authentic" tone comment. Wtf?! I cringed...

Looks like a very nice guitar all the same. Also the Soul Power decal is in the case so you don't need to use it.

I think the original had the same tuners and Floyd setup so it's authentic to that. Even though some of Tom's butchered guitars are fairly ugly beasts.

  • Resurrection of zombie thread!
Does anyone know what generation of Vintage Noiseless pickups are in it?

Also, locking tuners with a Floyd make loads of sense. They speed up string changing heaps. They are not really locking in the same way a locking nut is.

I don't know but I think Trogly has taken the guitar apart in one of his videos and might have that answer.
