The black sheep of your collection...

What's Hot

Interested to see what people have kicking about in their collections that are completely out of character for you as a player. Anything that there’s no way you’d see yourself buying now but you love to play and wouldn’t sell.

I’ve got my Lag from about 15/16 years ago that I bought because it was the best playing guitar in the shop for my budget. Back then my tastes weren’t quite as ‘refined’. I can’t play metal, don’t like pointy guitars and haven’t gigged it forever but I love it.

I don’t like super thin necks but this has one. Don’t do EMGs which this has. Not really a Floyd guy which this has got. Not into pointy guitars generally... However, this one just works for me and is a keeper.

What’s your black sheep?

  • Mine's a Vintage VS6, which is an SG copy for those that don't know.
I'm one of those sensitive, shoegazey types that can normally be seen coaxing shimmery noises out of a Fender offset but occasionally, I just have to take the VS6, tuned down to C#, and play the most filthy, sludgy riffs I can muster.
    It's quite cathartic.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

That’s pretty awesome. Are the round holes at the front just grills? Looks like they could be built in speakers or something mad?

It is a square neck dobro.
You play it on your lap.

A tele... though I've technically owned more teles in the last 2 years than any other single type.. went from a Squier Affinity to a player series, to another player series to an American Special, then finally last month got the American Pro..

I predominately play metal.  Not sure what it was all about but its a full on keeper..

But my bar for normal is pretty low.
    Or is that high?
This is what I usually play:

  • I don't have a guitar that's out of character for me: I play rock & metal, and I have 2 superstrats and a PRS SE. I really want a big ol' jazzbox though...
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

Mine is a made in Japan SQ serial number Squier Bullet H2 - Somehow captures lots of mojo + character - Still all original - Would easily make  a good project hot rod, but is fine as its stands and I like its quirky vibe

Always  a story that these were partly made out of various excess stock from USA parts

I own a fretless bass, which implies that I am actually a proper musician and not just a semi-trained guitarist who found six strings were two too many...

I strangely really like that. It looks REALLY comfortable to play.

    Exactly what I thought.

I seem to have a very traditional outlook when I think about guitar design but still find it very attractive.

It reminds me of a weird fish or maybe a skate/ray fish.

I've always thought most 60s and 70s Japanese guitars were crap but that didn't stop me playing slide on an old Teisco.

  • Mine is my 3 x P90 Layke "Smoothie" semi. Stands out like a sore thumb among the H/H and H/S/H super strats.

By the way, following the imgur link on my mobile I got warned that the picture might be pornographic.  =)
