  • I wish they weren't doing that Firebird, I may not be able to resist, I hope it's rubbish, I really can't get another guitar.

Yup, the Firebird looks fantastic, and easier to justify a cheaper guitar for an oddball sort of thing.

I’m not the target market but the new headstocks do make the LPs and SGs look much better.
Same, I hope it's shit. Too tempting otherwise.

  • Is the Firebird neck-through?
Epi website says set neck, but it LOOKS like a neck -through model.

Always the ESP Phoenix, I suppose, but I assume they will be significantly pricier.....

In the Peach Guitars day 1 video on YouTube he mentions a limited edition 59 reissue epiphone les paul, with case and cert etc. Not sure how it will differ from their new 50's standard but might be one to look out for. I think it might be the one at the front on this Instagram pic

Epiphone are making a SG Custom with a Ebony fretboard for £549.

Considering Gibson counterpart was/is ridiculously expensive, it's a pretty decent offer as is their LP Custom as well.

It seems quite a few of the models have CTS pots as well.  IMO, a way more important new addition than the revised headstock.

That is the pick of the bunch for me. The Gibson SG Custom retailed for over £3.5k there is still one for sale at GAK I think. I know diminishing returns and all, but is it really seven times better?!

Seems strange that someone would be put off by the shape of the top of the headstock being different but wouldn't mind that it had a big "Epiphone" instead of "Gibson". Surely that's a bigger difference in the look.

  • Love the LP Special, I suspect we'll have to wait for a while for the LP Junior, they'll bring that out when they need to Stoke some excitement!

What effect (if any) will the (sort of) new headstock have on the older headstock guitar prices?

I am always amused that people find the Epi headstock to be so crucial to their playing yet they are willing to play guitars with ridiculous shaped bodies.

If you are looking at the headstock while playing you are doing something wrong IMHO. If you can see the headstock while playing you are holding the  guitar ‘wrong’.

Oh, I missed it I'll go take a look. (Edit) Don't know how I missed that, looks great: )

Gibson/Epiphone have done what they should have done years ago if these guitars are decent quality. The prices are in the right area to kill off competition who are basically using their designs.

If we all thought the same the world would be a boring place.

It's a bit like peoples faces.

There is only a few millimeters difference but by heck it don't half and make a difference;-)

    It's a collector's item!
Great stuff! I'm going to form a Society for the Preservation of the Heritage Epiphone Clipped Headstock. Will be known as SPHECH for short.

    Anyone care to join?

Seriously tempted by the black LP Custom. Man that looks nice, and I always prefer a nice ebony fretboard over anything else.
