The small things you miss from days gone by ...

What's Hot
axisusaxisus Frets: 28285
I was driving my car yesterday, and watched that moment when the milometer went from 99,999 miles to 100,000. It was slightly exciting but also a bit dull to just see the digital display flip from one number to the next in a fraction of a second.

Back in the 80s/90s I got through seven old minis. I ran them all into the ground, and the 'clocking' thing was much more exciting then. It was a mechanical process, and all the numbers would be straining and shaking to take them all back to zero (just the 5 digits in some cars). It was much more of an event. OK, I guess I seem a bit sad to some of you lot!

Miss anything from the old days?

I can remember thinking it was exciting that I would (probably) be alive in the year 2000!

Going to the bog in a pub, and finding a fag-end discarded in the urinal gutter. There was only one honourable thing to do. You'd aim - as well as you could - and try to hit the filter-to-cigarette join to break it apart. Then all of the loose tobacco fibres would float slowly down the urinal gutter under the piss-streams of other blokes.

Nothing was ever said, but the air of respect was palpable.

    (just me, then) :#

The slow trickle of new music.  I dunno, streaming's great and all, but I remember getting one album and rinsing it instead of mindlessly flicking through billions upon billions of choices.

I'll never forget seeing Motorhead for the first time in that Young Ones episode, pretty much wore out the VHS tape :)

I suppose it's just what you grow up with.

Buying an album 'blind' not having heard any music from it. It's so easy to pre-check stuff these days.

I remember my first - I bought Rush's Caress of Steel in 1980. None of the record shops had Permanent Waves (Spirit of Radio was riding the singles charts), and I just liked the look of the cover. The only Rush track I had ever heard was SoR.
