Fender Custom Shop has announced a faithful recreation of George Harrison’s ‘Rocky’ Stratocaster, as made famous by its appearance in The Beatles’ 1967 Magical Mystery Tour film.

Harrison’s guitar was originally a Sonic Blue Strat, purchased in 1965 and still bearing the decal from the music store it came from: ‘Grimwoods; The music people; Maidstone and Whitstable’.

1967, Harrison gave the guitar its dayglo paint job, and by December 1969, he had painted ‘Bebopalula’ on the body, ‘Go Cat Go’ on the pickguard’ and ‘Rocky’ on the headstock.

price is yet to be confirmed, as is its availability, but we do know it’s due in April.

There are cool guitars - odd ball guitars - weird n wonderful - ugly - etc etc and our beloved @HarrySeven has many that fit into such categories - But somehow I like this

Do they all have mental AA grade flame necks like the original?

A true rock n roll icon but of limited appeal

    • I quite like it but will not be buying one (even if it was a Mexican made guitar for under a grand).

One of those things for me where it would be amazing to have the real one but don't see any sense making copies of it.

Thank God George Harrison pursued a career in music and not painting.

Which is a shame, hard not to think the everyday bod deserves some more interesting colours of guitar!

The original is the perfect example of how ruining a lovely vintage guitar can make it vastly more valuable than a mint original, if the person doing the damage is famous enough.

If I were a multi-millionaire - I’d buy one of these and have it on display in my house. Guitars as art - I have no problem with that at all.

I would have thought it would still be in Harrisons family , I've been to a few hard rock cafes and seen a black and white mex strat with a pic of clapton playing blackie and the little plaque says claptons blackie ,a few other examples as well .
