    SM57 is the industry standard, no? I was reading yesterday that there are lots of fake ones about though.

    It depends on the situation, if there's a big ish stage and the guitar amp \ cab is far enough from the drums then a 57 or 58 is great. If it's a small stage and the guitar amp \ cab is near the drums then an E906 is the best bet.

    Basically a mic picks up what you want it to but in some situations like when playing on a small stage Live, a whole bunch of stuff you don't .... some mic's like the 906 have a tighter pattern than a basic cardioid so even though you might prefer the sound of a certain mic it's pickup pattern defines it;s usability

    the off-brand 57s sometimes sound better/hotter than the real thing.
