Non-stick pans, my arse !

What's Hot
Emp_FabEmp_Fab Frets: 24292
Does anyone have a recommendation for a non-stick frying pan ?  Everything I've tried has always failed within a year or two, and they never see the inside of the dishwasher - always cleaned by hand with just water and Fairy and a nylon brush.  Never seen a metal utensil...    I'm wondering if I should give up on good quality onces and just buy cheap shit and replace it when it fails.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.
Also chips are "Plant-based" no matter how you cook them.

I keep just a small non-stick for frying eggs so you can use the barest amount of oil and get good results.
For everything else and years in a pro kitchen what is non-stick and why do you need it, just prove Omelette pans with salt from time to time and don't wash them.

  • Actually a non stick arse would be a great benefit , say goodbye to those days when you seem to be wiping infinitely but still seeing colour on the bog roll

Without entering too far into the realms of Mumsnet...... Scoville Neverstick pans are very good.   Only got them just after Xmas so can’t comment on their longevity, though.

Th best type I have used is the pebble-dashed, speckled ones. Ours had no chips after 6 months, however the steel disc on the bottom delaminated. It seems there's always something to go wrong in these pans.

And yes I guess the answer is to keep a cheap small pan for fried eggs and not use non-stick otherwise, although some white fish will happily stick and disintegrate when cooked in pretty much anything.

We've had one of these for a couple of years, and still non-stick. Never in dishwasher, but gets a lot of use. Not cheap, but it seems to  last well.

Cast iron with ceramic coating seems to be the least sticky and easiest to clean.

Did you season the pan before you used it ?

dunno what brand they are, but couple of years ago  mrs f spent ages researching frying pans, ended up buying 3 fairly expensive ones (she thinks they're called mastercraft). From day 1 they've been shit. Unless you cook really carefully with them, basically they're completely non non stick. It was so bad, the smallest one basically failed after about a month (the coating came off). So don't buy them.
When she was in hospital for the 1st time and I was spending all day there and was basically living off bacon and sausage sarnies, I ended up buying a cheapo one from the supermarket. Think it was about 5 quid and it's still fine. So my tip is buy cheap shit.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

I have a brand new non stick frying Pan under my pillow just in case a Burglar breaks in. He may want me to rustle him up some Egg and Bacon before he leaves.

    Non stick pans suck.
I use cast iron pans that stay non stick once they've been properly seasoned.
You still have to use oil when frying so I've never seen the point of non stick pans.
And I don't like the thought of eating little bits of tefal even if it is supposed to be chemically inert.
