  • World wide how many guitars are produced on a daily basis?

I wonder how many guitars are scrapped on a daily basis? I bet it is a lot less than produced.

No wonder guitars can be hard to shift.

No wonder I don't buy new:-)

  • Anything not Gibson, Fender or Martin.

Substantially more loss on custom orders and smaller brands of course.

    Lefty stuff also....sadly for me

What are the worst guitars to sell on once bought new, in terms of time to shift and depreciation in value?
Took a bath on a new PRS, wouldn't buy new again.

I believe PRS (the bloke) said the biggest competitor to PRS (the brand) is PRS (the guitars they already sold).

I would imagine that good quality guitars don't get thrown away often, but they might get sold on ebay below market value when someone has to sell their dad's old guitar collection as part of winding up someone's estate.
On the flip side, with fewer people being interested in playing guitar (I guess), there becomes an over supply of quality guitars on the market, and their value drops along with the price of every other guitar.
I probably need to thin the herd, whilst there is still some value to be had....

Would be interesting if someone recorded it to work out which brand had the worst percentage lose. My guess is PRS and Chapman.

I'm completely bought in to relic guitars now. Ding a shiny PRS and good luck selling it. Ding a relic strat to your heart content and it adds value!  =)

  • G&L make lovely guitars IMHO but can be a bit tricky to sell on sometimes.
great guitars - i feel the headstock kills them but just mho.
Absolutely, I never consider them for this exact reason

I'm stating to fall in to the trap but it does make me laugh that a fantastic guitar, built with all the right materials and components can depreciate faster (than the big name brands) because of the shape (and name on it) of the headstock!

Horses for courses and for those who don't care they can probably do very well out of the situation: )

It is a natural finish with Dot inlays and UES138 if I remember correctly. I thought and assumed it would be an easy sell. But hey ho.
stick it on here? how much were you after?

Well, one could always donate them to an "orphanage".

    Any high-end classical guitar.
Yes, with the exception of a handful of top makers who have long waiting lists. If one of their guitars becomes available on the second-hand market they will usually sell very quickly (and for a higher price than the new cost).
Care to divulge any names of these makers ?
High end steel string acoustics take a massive hit as well , even the boutique American builders are not exempt from poor re-sale prices .

Worst guitars to sell are always the ones I have decided are surplus to requirements.

Best guitars to sell are always the ones I am GASing for.

Vintage classIcal guitars are let down by cedar tops that tend to lose their vim and vigour with time.
