I don’t see any issue with the data cable, although I may have used an external grade cable rather than Cat 5 in conduit, ...the conduit may get brittle eventually and might crack.

A couple of points you might want to note -

    1. consider and earth pit for the rod , this will retain access to the connection when complete, also for anyone testing the installation in the future might want to Put a notice at the house DB stating it has a 2nd earth connection, otherwise they will never be able to fully isolate.

    2. For what it’s worth you can get acoustic and fire rated Putty pads , these go inside the socket back boxes for additional protection,

    looking great though !

    Update time...

The last couple of days have been foot to the gas to complete the boarding and prepping, before the plasterer started the skim today.

I'll assume that nobody is interested in watching pictures of plaster drying, so the next update will be friday, when the electrics go live.

Here's the boarding finished and taped, ready for skimming:

and today the plasterer did the ceiling and first two walls. Should be finished tomorrow.

Should be able to start painting in a few days! :D

Just checked back in here for the first time in a while and its looking great, I remember when the plaster went in one my garage conversion it goes to suddenly feeling like an indoors building rather than an outdoors one.

Most of the electrics were connected up today. Just the armoured core and earth to get in to the consumer unit, and outside light to connect.

Light fixtures look good on the side walls

Here's the consumer unit in place, just above drummer's corner!

Finished on Monday, then I'll start painting.

Ouch...is that a split DB....consider individual RCBO on each circuit,  at the moment it's one out all out....well half out at least.

Also wondering about the Dom / Studio / clean circuits....meaning what?....just separate wired?

I'm not actually connecting it up. Got my proper sparky, who specialises in music venues doing it.

    I've got 4 circuits;

    Lights
Domestic only (Fridge, kettle, Hoover, phone chargers etc)
Studio is for instruments / amps etc
Clean is purely a spur for my recording PC and rig and is just that one double plug.

I know the board has two sections; a regular one and a critical one that keeps going if something else trips. There are obviously breakers on each ring too. It's pretty modern apparently, and he chose it. The whole studio comes off a 6mm armoured core from the main house, and has a separate earth spike buried outside.

Yeah it’s current spec....though if the supply from the house is also RCD protected them you have no fail safe at all, if an earth fault develops in the studio then you lose the lot.

You could help this case by selecting different rated RCD devices to give some discrimination, but to be honest it’s costly.

one last thing, did you say the house was being rewired as well?.....Have they advised you about the use of AFDD ?.....this is an Arc fault protection device now recommended by BS7671 for various reasons, in your case it would be mainly protection of high value equipment against fire,

I hope ŷou appreciate I’m just trying to help you get the best install for your money, not having a pop at the spark !....

    Two exciting milestones today.

Firstly, the electrics are done and signed off

Really pleased with the lights I picked

And the outside light is pretty good too!

I also got most of the mist coat on the walls this afternoon

The white changes everything! Once the second coat is on it'll look great.

Wow, looks great. I can’t work out the layout, is the single door on the side, or the rear of the garage? What are the interior dimensions now?

It's a little under 5m square. The door you can see is the side door in from the garden, the big garage door is now bolted shut and behind the long flat wall. The pillars with lights on are the sides.

Easily room for a full band plus my storage, desk, fridge and home theater stuff.

Time for another mammoth update...things are really starting to come together.

First off, my tame chippy arrived to do joinery magic. Skirting boards, architraves, and of course, hanging Lemmy properly for me!

While he's been doing that, I took the time to start getting things on walls.

    Speakers and stands

A heavy, sound dampening curtain to cover the wall that I will be using as a cinema screen, as I can't use any other acoustic treatment on this one

Then it was time to start painting the new woodwork...

Today I started acoustic treatment and some of the final wall finishing

Oh...and I put up the LED lights for background lighting when watching a film or playing Xbox on the giant wall, or to do sound to light when I have clients in.

Then, finally, the moment had come for the trickiest job; lining up and applying a round vinyl decal, with almost no straight lines to level it with, to a rectangular wall! Very happy with the result!

    And we finally got Lemmy hung! Many thanks again for the donation @Sasquatch_Bob ;

We're just fiddling with the tunnel sides, to link the inner and outer door, and then the floor will be going down. Should be tomorrow.

I'm aware of the effect and agree it would look great, but finding the damn hat rails to screw them too now would be a nightmare, and as they only run in one direction, the sides would be near impossible.
