So I just got a 1993 Fender American Telecaster Standard! Which so happens to be from my Birth year.
It's in immaculate condition for its age, needs a good clean on the fretboard though, no big deal.

Everything seems to be standard on it from the Advertisement, the usual American electronics and such.

The guitar weighs a bloody tonne too, which is nice. Decently thick neck too.

One question, whats the hole on the neck plate for? I've heard about something to do with a tilt mechanism?

On to the photos:

yes the tilt mechanism - ie saves the need for any 'card packaging' under the neck - Not sure if any adjustment is required - Not sure if the appropriate allen key is in the case - If you do tweak it then best to detune first and only a slight tweak is generally required - Once correctly set-up then should not be any issue for a later date

Brilliant, there was an Allen key included in the case so that's good.

Plays fine, strings need changing for sure though

If it plays fine then I would ignore it - I have adjusted them as and when required, but as an overview they should not need to be adjusted unless some fool has mucked around with it - It is a neat idea and saves having to remove the neck to put a shim under it, if required

I assume that is a Carribean Mist finish which was talked about in another blog the other day on FB

All this talk of birth years and vintage 90s guitars is maing me feel old. I bought my first new guitar in 1990.
I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

Looks nice mate, appears to have had a fret job too which in my opinion is always preferable.

On the fifth and sixth photos, the fret wear is almost zero which is not commensurate with the condition of the fretboard. You can also see the striations of the fret end filing too. Also, the frets appear to be bigger than what may have been standard at the time. I think I can also see marks where the fretboard lacquer has been cut to remove the old frets (but I have been staring at a screen all day so could be seeing things!)
