I think he says hes using a Zonk machine.
    Are they the same thing?
Relatively new to the world of fuzz so youll have to forgive my ignorance.

zonk is a variation of the mk1 tb
you can cop the mk1 feel with a fuzz face that has a bias control to dial in the sputtery decay

I have a DanDrive Austin Pride and with both sides set to Silicon i can get close but cant manage the decay as easily.
Bloody awesome sound all the same!

From what I have read on the various DIY pedal forums, the Zonk in all its incarnations is a tricky beast to build due to it being ridiculously fussy with transistors. I had a go at the D.A.M FZ673 (a Zonk-based fuzz) and never got it sounding right, the only fuzz I ever felt I'd failed with. I really need to get back and spank it into submission!
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

Yeah i had one of those but didnt find that setting sounded anything like the Zonk Machine.
I might just bite the bullet and buy one of the new zonk machines. Theyre not much more than the pedals that are reminiscent of it.

Thanks for all the suggestions lads!

To be honest you can get that sort of gated ring-mod fuzz  tone from a Clean Octave Blend type pedal. A Mythos Argo or similar. I got one custom made for £85 on reverb.com

  • Any fuzz with a bias knob can achieve that sound and i agree it sounds shit.   Just under bias it with the bias knob

just don't buy anything made by BPC/“british pedal company”. they're shysters and don't make a decent fuzz

You could contact ghost effects, they do custom. One of their 2065 (MK1 tonebenderish) fuzzes with a bias knob added might do the trick

Have seen some posts on Facebook from ‘B.G. Harding Pedals and Amps’, he seems to make a version of the zonk machine amongst other fuzzes. Might be worth a look

Just sent him a message asking about the fuzz and octave pedal. Will likely be more then i want to spend.
May just go for the mythos mini octave to go with the dandrive.
