Nathaniel Murphy - utterly astounding

What's Hot

I'm sure some of you will have seen this guy before but seriously, he is just about the most technically astonishing guitar player I've ever seen - the closest I've ever seen to some kind of superhuman guitarist for whom literally anything is possible. And yet he's so musical. This, for example - playing guitar and mandolin at the same time, then throwing some slide in just to make it even cooler.

Or how about Crazy Little Thing Called Love - the bassline, chords, vocal melody and lead guitar all in one part.

This utterly beautiful acoustic piece:

He chicken picks like an absolute motherfucker:

I'm going to let this one speak for itself:

I like the Massive Attack cover, very clever.
But for me when you say "superhuman", I was expecting some Holdsworth or Shawn Lane level of fluidity.

P.s just looked as his Instagram, does he own a guitar shop?!

And bloody hell, I forgot he did an arrangement of Baba O'Riley:

It's a different thing really - I'm thinking more in terms of just how much is going on. Multi-tasking like no-one's business.

Insane talent. Saw a great video of him playing Danny Gatton stuff note perfect at Chicago Music Exchange. Would love a lesson from him.

Unbelievable talent - loved them all but particularly the first slide tune.  I'm just in awe as to how he learned to play like that and develop those styles...his musicality is just a god given gift. Thanks so much for posting
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I've tried listening to Holdsworth and lane type players, they might be great but they honestly do nothing for me, just not my thing, I like a song, riff and rhythm, give me a Warren Haynes etc any day

I like Nathaniel for his musical demos

I was expecting something more twiddly, clever but verging on the unlistenable...cause that’s what we get a lot of on here. Whereas this is someone I’d listen to, very nice music  indeed that happens to be as clever as a clever thing from Clevercleverland.

Reminds me of Steve Morse's acoustic playing.
    Very nice.

Normally percussive acoustic players leave me cold but this guy makes it musical.

When you said "superhuman" I was expecting him to play THREE instruments simultaneously while putting out fires from a unicycle so I'm sorry but I've reported you to HMRC.

I love @Bucket's enthusiasm for the player and his ability is unquestionable for sure.

I find the double tapping technique one to be technically very impressive, but what I find even more impressive is when guitarists can use the technique for the benefit of the composition opposed to just showing off (which there is absolutely nothing wrong with in the slightest bit, I love a lot of guitar music which is all about speed and showing off).
