Here's mine, a Cannondale Trail 3.  I'm going out most days at the moment, so probably used it more in the last 2 months of lockdown that the proceeding 2 years.  I must upgrade the pedals for some DMR's or something and I might get some street tyres and ditch the knobbly ones until autumn.

Guys, how much would you think a pair of tyres, inner tube, Haynes brakes, chain and service cost?

i have a Giant Trance 3 in the shed that need some serious TLC.

That depends what else they find during the service, and how much you want to spend on tyres.
£60-70 would probably cover it if you're happy with non-fancy tyres and do the work yourself, which should all be fairly straightforward.

If the cabling all needs replaced then add another £30 for the kit to do that. The internal cable runs all look pretty short so still should be manageable for a DIY job.

Pay someone to do all that and I'd imagine you'd be looking at another £50-60 to cover labour.

That’s not too bad, much less than I thought, hopefully the shocks are not shot.  It’s kept dry but been in the shed so long some of the screws have gone a bit rusty.

^ Giant Trance E+1 Pro - I’ve put 1500 miles on this so far this year.

^ Spesh Turbo Levo SL Carbon Comp - this is waiting for me at my mates shop pending a few upgrades. Ridiculously excited.

I’ve also got a Whyte 629 hanging in the garage.

  • Does anyone else really dislike internal cabling? Seems so impractical!

I like that it keeps cables out of the way, but in a practical sense efficient cabling does that anyway...

Completely depends on how well the manufacturer has thought about it. Well designed frames with good routing and sleeves for the cables make it work really well but poorly done and it is a nightmare both for fitting and performance.

Yep, completely, it really depends on the implementation. Not much worse than constantly rattling internal cables. Also, you really wouldn’t want an ebike wiring loom on the outside...

    I'm considering an e-mtb myself.

@simonk did you compare the SL to the FSR?

@octatonic Yeah, the ‘full fat’ Levo is like my Trance and a bit like riding a trials bike... lots of fun! They’re planted but heavy and you really notice it when the motor stops assisting at 25kph.
The SL feels like a StumpJumper... nimble and poppy - much more like a traditional mountain bike. The SL is also much easier to pedal unassisted or above 25kph, again it feels more like a regular bike.
Try as many as you can would be my advice - they’ll all put a monster grin on your face.

Yowser... that's very pretty. Which Rockshox are they, I can't see a name, Lyrik? My revelation also have 35m stanchions, those look great in the stealth colourway. Mine were the same colour but I changed the decal to better match the bike.
    Groupset ?

I couldn't justify going up to the Comp which had Lyric fork- it was another £1300.
This is the base model FSR which has a Rockshox 35.
I might upgrade to a bigger battery and maybe the brakes but I think the suspension is good for me.

I was skeptical about e bikes but I am now a total convert- they are ridiculously good fun.

Did my first 20-ish miles on the Levo.

What an amazing bit of kit- so much fun and I reckon I get a better work out than on an...er.. acoustic bike because I don't get knackered so soon and can go longer than I usually would.
I only went home as I ran out of battery (it came half charged.)

    They're something, huh?

    I don't have one but I tried a rentable e-bike. Horrible thing.

So fun so glide past racers on it though!
