Now that Strung Out in Glasgow has closed, I'm looking for recommendation for tech work.  I've used The Guitar Workshop before, but they are closed for work.  How are Jimmy Egypt?  Any other recommendations?

@HT986M2 - Jimmy Egypt has talen over the old Strung Out shop - I've been using them for pickup swaps and they have been very good so far!
Oh great to know!  I used Merchant City Music for the electronics work I was after at the time.  I knew they had a workshop from past interactions, but I had incorrectly assumed all this time that it was for shop stock only.  Turns out it's a full workshop will a great turnaround time.

How is the Jimmy Egypt city branch's turnaround times out of interest?  I appreciate it will vary, but it'd be good to know a rough average if you've used them a few times for pickup changes.

Any recommendations for Belfast? My Strat could use a fret dress..
Would second the previous post about Leif at RNR Workshop. Really good and fairly priced.

I'd like to get a pickup fitted to my acoustic (big Baby Taylor), I'm in Bournville in Birmingham. I have the pickup already (JourneyTek Passive 3-piezo Pickup EP001K, I think similar to K&K mini?) but not got the confidence nor ability to fit it and drill the required hole. There's a chap nearby (BBT Guitars) who has said he could do it but I don't really have any experience of them and I know fitting the piezo plates in the right positions is really pivotal to getting a good sound, so I'm not sure if i trust them.

I have scrolled back a few pages but not seen any Birmingham based recommendations.

    Thank you!
I have no mouth, and I must scream

Can anyone recommend a trusted tech in Worcestershire? I've been considering Really Great Guitars in Droitwich and Malvern Hills Guitars in Malvern but I was hoping for a firsthand recommendation.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Guys,
If you need any work done on your guitars in the south east I’m now working privately again. My workshop is in Seaford Sussex for fretwork and finishing etc, but I am mobile for servicing and minor mods and repairs.

  • Think my acoustic’s frets need some attention, any recommendations near Colchester, Essex?
Not sure if he's taking any repair work for now, but Martyn Booth in Sudbury is excellent.

  • In North East England if you want work done on a guitar I can recommend you get in touch with Curvy Sounds, in Heaton Newcastle. Andrew or one of his approved assistants will sort out anything that wants doing. Sorted out my 1965 Epiphone Olympic Special for me (a previous guitar tech had thought that the neck was twisted). Their website is well worth a visit if you can't get to the shop itself as they also stock a diverse collection of guitars and other instruments as well.

Just a note to say I had the nut on my sons PRS DGT replaced at Jimmy Egypt (Glasgow GWR) this week. Dropped it off last Monday and got it back today. I think it was Dan who did the work, but either way, they did an excellent job, and at a good price too, with a pretty quick turn around. Recommended.

hey folks, any pointers on Southeast London? Greenwich and similar. Feline is nominally in my area but over an hour to reach on public transport and I don't have a car.

East London works as well because I work in Bethnal Green.

Funnily enough I'm in Bermondsey/New Cross and just took a JM to Fuzzworld Guitars who're around the corner. Craig runs it out of his house as a side job, but he 110% knows his stuff and puts the work in. I'm really pleased with the results. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

East London way the only one I know is Juan at London Guitar Repairs by Limehouse Station. I took something to him once and he did a pretty good job. Maps says they're temporarily closed but he seems to be posting on Facebook, so likely still around.

Just bought one of Matt at Kemp Guitars' personal guitars which is absolutely amazing in every regard, including semi hemispherical fret ends and perfect setup, and I'd recommend him/them for a new build or setup if you're near Aylesford, Kent

I have an Ibanez RG that I need a fret level on, sounds like @FelineGuitars is the way to go.

Would sending just the neck be practical or does it “need” to be the complete guitar, I understand about the setup… I can do this I just do t have the tools/experience to do a full fret level.

Ideally the whole guitar if the guitar has a modern all access neck fitting , then we can do a proper fret dress in the neck jig that takes into account the string tension affects . If it only needs a gentle on the bench level we can work without the body

    Thanks for the reply.

It is an all access neck joint, brand new guitar RG470 I believe.

I have gone over it and it has quite a few that need levelling so I think a full level might be the best option, if it were a few I normally handle it, pretty alarming how many need leveling considering its new.

One thing I have do t tried, is tapping them down… that has often improved the situation.

Any recommendations for a luthier in or near Newcastle? I tried JXC but they appear to have gone out of business.
