Stickers...... with everything

What's Hot

It seems that every piece of gear I buy comes with stickers, especially fx. Years ago I’d plaster things with them. Even guitars. But now I’m loathe to deface anything with the messy glue residue.

Apart form teenagers, does anyone use these stickers? I don’t believe many do as when you buy used gear it often still has the unused stickers in the box. Perhaps from several users ago. Most seems reluctant to use them so as not to diminish the orignial packaging and contents for resales. Why do they bother with them? Especially stickers for very unsexy things like SE Electronics, why would anyone want that??

Do you stick?

Stays in the box or goes in the bin.

  • Actually I’ve just bought a brand new OBNE Minim..... the ultimate hipster fx company. Fair play, no stickers! Though it was in a nice cotton bag (not clear why these are needed too, when will anyone ever use the bag???)

The bags make even less sense. The stickers are a throwback for free advertising, although who bothers nowadays.

I don't want your shitty stickers and shitty plectrums and shitty cloth drawstring bags.

Take £1 off the price and dump all that crap.

Some people like it though. Some people collect these things and enjoy every aspect of it, seeing the pedals as works of art alongside everything else they can do.

Indeed. I will suggest it’s all about feeding our anticipation and making the box opening a little more special to highlight the item within.

    What’s in the box?

Apple products? Pass-the-parcel when you were a child?

I've put the ones that came with Apple products on suitcases to make them easier to recognise on the carousel. Even then I managed to go home with someone else's luggage once (I was tired). Perhaps if I used Joyo stickers instead it would be even more identifiable, and exude the impression there was nothing worth pilfering in there.

Come to think of it, no one ever has pilfered anything, even in South America (though it's happened there to people I know), so the only person in this case who's taken something that didn't belong to them is me. Doesn't stop me being paranoid, though.

(The carousel. At the airport. Where the planes are. Planes. For travelling in. Remember travelling?)

Useful to have case candy for when you sell the pedal

When I was a teenager, I stuck corny stickers from Kerrang on my DOD Grunge (see below) and a Crybaby. Resale value was not a concept I knew back then!

I cover my Roland cube in them, but then feel silly if I have to gig with it...

Buying a DOD Grunge should have been the biggest indicator of that to be honest.

I agree, what's the point of those tie-string bags, as the pedal is either on my board or in the box....

And stickers with everything? Grow up!

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?

I stick them all over my steamer trunk and my horseless carriage.
They are a bit 20th century.
People like to be identified by their hobbies.
