Just saw this on Facebook. Only 72 too.
Sweet were actually a great rock band, not just the kitsch pop chart name they got saddled with. The b sides of their singles were always belters.

    RIP Steve.

RIP Steve, you were an eccentric original.
Already been said, but Sweet were a rock band tied into a glam/pop bubble.
Shame, but they still have a musical legacy that holds up to scrutiny.

Oh dear. I just haven't got a clue what to do.

Sweet were a thundering good band when the mood took them.

Sad news. Great rock band. Fond memories of that era.

    It's not a competition.

My memories of watching TOTP with the family are of that Glam era - Sweet, Mud, Rubettes, Glitter Band, etc. Apart from the odd track on the radio I have hardly listened to Sweet in the intervening years but I've had the Hits on this morning and it's melodic, powerful, surprisingly sophisticated and really hard to get out of your head. Very close to Queen at times ( or Queen were close to them or those harmonies in the vocals and guitar were just the mid seventies zeitgeist) and I don't know how much was the band and how much was the producers but it has aged really well.
    Ahh, RIP Steve.
