a car :)

Don't know shit about cars but what i do know is Hooters and I are desperately needing a new one before the years end

Up until now we have had a hair dryer of a car year in and year out same car Vauxhall corsa 1.2

Now teh wife is lookin' for some more power and acceleration....aren't we all?

She does not want a MONSTER of a car and we have an eye on petrol consumption....keeping with the Vauxhall corsa, what's a good step up or two up in power for her?

Thanks men

Considering what you have now and that long I don’t see you care for the badge or looking for really cutting edge performance.  If you have a hatchback then I guess you want to stick to the same and don’t want to spend £20k

So I’ll look at these used.

    Ford Fiesta/Focus ST.
    Seat Leon FR.
Volvo C30 T5 (if you can stomach 15-20mpg round town, this applies to the Focus ST too with the 5 pot engine)
    Toyota Auris
    Honda Civic

Skoda fabia. Bit bigger and a whole heap more reliable. Not to mention more refined. German design and European made to a tried and trusted recipe.

is 1.5 much of a jump in the Vauxhall range from the 1.2?

is that still in the hair dryer range of cars then @1.5?

Skoda Fabia VRS would be like a rocket compare to the Corsa.

My C30 T5 feels much more powerful than my old Yaris SR which had a 1.8L engine.

As for 1.5 vs 1.2, depends on the car and gearing.  Size and weight and whether it’s turbo or NA or Supercharged.

A Mini Cooper would be fun but cheap (old) ones are expensive to run compare to a Corsa being made by BMW.

    Seat Leon 1.4 TSI

Lovely VAG Turbo engine - plenty of oomph but can still deliver 50+ MPG without too much effort.

I bought mine 3 years ago for £10k - it was 2 years old then.

Not sure what mines worth now but I doubt its more than £3.5k, reckon it'll go on for another 5 years.

I bought a new Mazda 3 for the Mrs last year.  I think it''s a 2 litre, it drives really nice, is pretty cheap to run and comes with a lot of extras for the money.  (Leather, heated seats and steering wheel, heads up display etc ,..... )  .

Citroen DS3.  Very nice car, handles really well.  1.2 or 1.4 engine I think but its goes nicely.

Honda Civic. Roomy, plenty of boot space, reasonably quick, and sips fuel.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Would a corsa 1.4 be OK?

Hooters does all the drivin' and our current 1.2 is a bit weak........would this feel anymore powerful at all?

Not by much, what does the spec sheet say? It will tell you the 0-60 on auto trader.

Why limit to 2018? Just to be within warranty?

    For £8k?

look at a golf tdi or Audi A3 tdi...

will last years, has bags of omph and great mpg...

just to add. My a3 has now done 150k + miles, sails through it mots and get about 52mpg on an urban cycle!!!!!
