Character Pedal Questions

I've a few questions about character Pedals, like the Joyo Tech 21 AMT type ones, apologies in advance for annoying questions

1. How well do they take pedals? At present with my amp I use a cleanish warming boost into for core tone, then fuzz, both into clean channel. I realise the boost bit might not do the trick it usually does (or would it?) but thinking the fuzz may still work?

2. I have the Joyo Fender one somewhere, and I vaguely recall it getting a bit hissy when the level/gain are turned up. Is this specific to the uber cheap Joyos or is it inherent in all of them?

3. Are ones that include a DI (or by using a DI after them) better?

To put it in perspective I'm considering them (or a full on preamp) to give me more flexibility at home, so that I could plug into a mixer into my hifi/headphones when not needing to use an amp, but also having the option to plug them into a power amp when I want to.
