Everything seems to tally. Could @DougCoda verify it?

  • I would be very grateful if he could.

Slightly odd spec but I can’t see anything notably wrong with it to think it’s not legit!

  • Yeah, the spec is a bit strange.

Everything there looks real, I can get you the floor traveller with the original spec if you email me at doug@coda-music.com and I’ll see if I have any notes on the original order at the shop

I looked at the pictures and my thought was real.
But I am not an expert.
It was good to see the other comments in agreement too.
But they may not be experts either.
I'm pretty sure a '69 Strat didn't have that SD pickup, though. :-)
Is it a tribute of some sort?

Yeah, the spec is a bit strange.
I think it's a nice spec, apart from the missing knob.

Could they not manage a pickguard with just the two knob holes or was it actually supposed to look like that?

  • No idea tbh.

Yeah, the spec is a bit strange.
Someone will have paid a small fortune for their dream guitar only to have lost half (or more) of it on resale.
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 2reaction image Wisdom
  • @SteveRobinson Yup. Dreams take a hit on resale sadly.

Mental that it is real, as looks a hot mess and does have an air of 'surely this is a fake?' to it.

My first impression was fake, but the rest of the pics show evidence of it being genuine. So I'll go with the collective wisdom on this one, but I still think it looks wrong.

Quirky spec but looks original and kosher

Why would someone go to that much trouble and cost to replicate a specific guitar with those particular odd features - read the special instructions about the missing volume knob and coil split switch, it’s clearly based on an existing one - and then sell it at a huge loss after it’s been barely played?

Because it’s just not a great guitar.

    But I don’t think it’s fake.

There are a lot of “see photos” in there, which suggests to me that it’s a copy/replica/tribute of/to a specific guitar so I’m guessing that it’s a cost-no-object reincarnation of something someone used to own and regrets selling (or had stolen, or further modified/butchered) or an obscure artist tribute...

Which is exactly the sort of thing custom shop special orders make sense for...
Don't ask me, I just play the damned thing...

  • The question is... what sale value would you give it?

My first thought was that it looked like a cheap chinese knockoff - so clearly I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to Fender  =)
