NGD - John Squire Splattered Hofner Replica

What's Hot

I’ve long wanted to sort myself a replica of this particular guitar but it’s obviously not been one I could just buy so I set about sorting one out earlier this year.

I started with a pretty low rent Hofner Verithin that I’ve modified by replacing the standard bridge and tailpiece with the all-in-one unit on there now. I also cut an access hole in the rear to make wiring fitting/changes much easier. Then the pickups were replaced with new Irongears, the stickers added to the neck to mimic inlays and then the paint job.

It hasn’t been plain sailing and the painting has been pretty nerve-wracking but it’s all good.

Here is the end result:

I think it has come out as a pretty accurate replica of the original, especially considering the random nature of the painting technique.

Hope you like it. I’m sure it might be a little divisive as some will hate the paint job I think but it’s exactly what I was after and it finishes my collection of the 4 main, iconic guitars I associate with a John Squire.

There’s a bit more detail in my build thread here:

There’s also pics of how the guitar was when I bought it and also John’s original that I copied.

I do have that t-shirt actually. No Les Paul though. I’m more about the first album so I’ve got the Gretsch, a Pink Strat and the Jaguar hybrid thing.

Second Coming’s a bit of a dog’s breakfast, but I love the sheer self indulgence of it. And the Seahorses too. I think I like JS best with a Les Paul. To my mind part of him belongs in that very straight ahead, rocking, ‘bite your lip and go for it’ lineage of British Les Paul players.

Love your Jaguar-thingy guitar as well!

    What Wah do you use?
