Isn't music wonderful? The Laine and Blunstone versions are very different but both are great.

Blunstone used to do rhe song as part of the Zombies set in recent years but when it came to the high note at the end he wouldn't go for it, saying "oh for Christ's sake, I'm in my sixties".

Wow, didn't know that Madonna one was a cover! (which of course is the point of this thread)

IIRC he was already dead before she recorded it. Might have to fact check that later...

Clive Maldoon who shares the writing credit died in 1978.

Steve Howe on guitar apparently on the original.

Anyway in the world of not quite covers it was a bit of a shock to me to discover that the bit I liked about Crazy in Love was a sample:

I listened to that just out of curiosity, but gosh I really liked it!  I don't listen to much modern dance/R&B music but everything I do hear sounds like it was made by robots.  That Chi-Lites track sounds like real human beings making music.

Probably best known for the rather schmaltzy Have You Seen Her ( although even that has a wacky fuzz guitar line). Some of that 70s funk/ RnB was pretty wild. I saw the current version of Sly and the Family Stone ( well, just The Family Stone) three or four years years ago and probably more guitar freak outs than many rock bands.
Even things like the Bee Gees I hear now and think 'wow that's some great  playing' which always seems a bit more impressive than 'wow that's some great sampling.'

What about Dave Curtiss (the other half of Curtis Muldoon) ?

He was probably set for life ( although as they wrote the song pre 1978 I'm guessing that he might be a well off pensioner).
I think they also share the credits with Madonna and someone else ( I want to say Babyface?) on her version so I don't know how much money you make out of 25% of a hit record.

Anyway, whilst I'm here and putting off stuff I should be doing and thinking about song connections...this...

    ...is based on this...

    ...which is based on this...

    ....as is this....

Presumably there's a graph somewhere showing the songwriting credits.

Not very The Fretboard friendly maybe but two big top ten hits there.

Top loader had a big hit with this song.
King Harvest had a modest hit with it in 1972.
Written by Sherman Kelly (who took the song with him when he joined King Harvest) and originally recorded by his band Boffalongo in 1970.

I think this is probably quite well known but Max Romeo was responsible for one of the Prodigy's early hits:

I know the Max Romeo one very well ( great example of octaves on guitar) and there’s even a Madness cover but I’ve no idea what The Prodigy did with it.

Yeah, that's that although I don't remember it. Sounds like a straightforward sample.
