RIP Frankie Banali

Frankie Banali, drummer and latterday leader of Quiet Riot, has died aged 68.

QR weren't the greatest band in the world, they're known for launching the career of Randy Rhoads and for one huge hit album which somehow failed to give them longer term success.

But Metal Health, what an album that was, I listened to it endlessly through 1983.  And Frankie Banali was the guy who kept the band going, on and off, through the ups and (mostly) downs, for the best part of 40 years.  RIP.

It's not a great time for the musicians of my youth right now. I saw QR at Hammersmith when they supported Judas Priest. I think I spent most of the time in the bar to be honest. A band who meant more in the US I suppose. They were properly successful at home. Over here more a novelty Slade tribute. Still - well played Frankie. RIP.
