Advice for a total numpty,,,re audio interface

I have started doing a bit of home recording with Soundtrap/ Bandlab using the usb out on my Boss Gt-1000 as the interface into my pc. Whilst this works fine to get an actual recording the latency makes it unusable if you need to monitor. I have been advised to use the two xlr sub-outs on the gt1000 into and audio interface and then go from there into the PC which will apparently cure the latency. I know nothing about all this sort of this and wondered if anyone could assist. I have been recommended to look at the Boss/Edirol UA-25 ....is this a reasonable suggestion?

Don’t know anything about soundtrap, but with most daws you can just monitor the direct signal which should have no latency

Agree....you should be able to turn monitoring of and just hear the live input.

as i said I am a total numpty but my understanding is that the usb output from the GT1000 isn't up to the job a creates the latency....?

You shouldn't need another interface - the Boss will act as one...maybe have a look at this ?

Bad latency is caused by a number of things...
1.check you have the latest "driver" installed for the GT1000
2.there will be a setting within the software to "set" the latency which it would be useful to check

i'm sure there will be someone with this exact or similar set up along shortly

I am using the USB to connect to the PC rather than any of the other 6 outputs and I think that is the problem. I want to use the two bal XLR outputs which have no latency issues ( and are mentioned in the article btw) so need to be able to output those into PC hence the AI suggestion

You can do that, but the suggestions above are about saving money and using what you have now properly.

You use the USB for sending the processed guitar signal to the DAW for recording, but you switch off monitoring in the DAW (so you don't get near-zero latency while you play).

So you use the audio outs or headphone out of the GT-1000 to listen to your playing, and you can hear any previously recorded tracks in the DAW (drums, bass, chords, etc) - played back via USB into the same speakers/headphones.

Thanx Goldtop ..sorry I am a numpty after all...In effect that is how I dealt with the problem myself ... I essentially used the USB to record as you say and used my usual out into my FFRS as a monitor whilst listening to playback via headphones...This is the non numpty solution which as you say saves some money but at the cost of some embarrassment

now had a chance to try out your suggestion but I'm not getting my pre recorded tracks playing back thru the headphone just a playnack via pc in built speaker ?

First, check your DAW's output settings and make sure it's set to direct playback audio to the GT-1000 (instead of the system audio output as it is right now). That might be enough.
