B B King : The Thrill Is Gone.

Personally, I find the outro to Layla vastly over extended and not to my taste.

Outro solo by Randy Rhoads on Tonight. Fades out way too soon but epic none the less!!
I always used to turn up the volume gradually as that faded to try to listen to absolutely all of it.
Nearly blew the windows out on. few occasions when the next track SATO started at full volume.

In a totally different vibe, I really love Johnny Marr’s outro on There is a Light that Never Goes Out.

  • Parry the Wind High, Low - Frank Black

The music and singing are running at different tempos, but seem to fit quite well every time the sung refrain comes back around.

We're Going To Live For A Very Long Time - Heaven 17. It continues on to the central groove of the LP, so has a theoretical track time of infinity.

    Little Wing - Hendrix.

Probably a contender for best intro and outro in one song.

Jeff Skunk Baxter on the outro solo on How Do Fools Survive from about 3:25. The compressor is a bit clicky but it sort of works in the track.

Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter's outro solo on Steely Dan's 'My Old School' but all of the solos on that track are superb.

Larry Carlton's outro solo on 'Kid Charlemagne'

Steve Lukather's outro and improvised on the spot solo on 'Rosanna'

Neal Schon's outro solo on 'Stone in Love'

Eddie Van Halen on 'One foot out the door' on Fair Warning

    Ooh Song by King's X.

You have to listen quite carefully as it fades out, but Ty Tabor slightly changes the riff right at the end, it's such a great moment.

(YouTube link not working, I'll try to find a better one later)

The classic multi-tracked outro to Strawberry Letter 23. More the last half of the song, really.

Lee Ritenour did the Brothers Johnson version but Shuggie's original is just cool.

It’s the Les Dawson school of guitar playing, so out of tune it’s almost Jazz ;)

It's not out of tune, it's just beautifully expressive and emotive use of pitch, which to me is the whole point of slide guitar.

But given how much it polarises opinion, it clearly is one of those things you either get or you don't.
