Removing the guitar from an existing recording?

I have a song (not mine) in iTunes that I'd like to remove the guitar track from to create a backing track to play along to.

Is this possible? I have a 2015 MBP with GarageBand & Audacity currently.

There is a program called Hit'n'Mix Infinity that will do this, sort of... it's not easy to use, though, and the results might be a bit variable.

Can't be done with conventional software like Audacity.

Izotope rx8 - but it isn’t cheap.

RX is generally better at changing levels rather than completely removing, which can have a few artefacts remaining.

I've used it to lower the level of drums/guitars/vocals fairly regularly.
It is good but it isn't perfect.

You might in Audacity find that adding it to a track,  adding an eq plugin then play the track and experiment removing certain frequencies can dull the guitar sufficiently to be a crude backing track.

Theres a free app for mac, called Riffstation which has some cool features which can get close with eq.
It's free, so its good for the price.

Some bands release their stems for fans to do remixes.
Have a look for that maybe?

Can it be done in Logic Pro? Thinking of upgrading from GarageBand.

Not without a plugin like RX8.

Depending on where the guitar is panned in the soundstage, Roland R-Mix might remove the direct guitar signal. Traces of it may still be audible as early reflections and/or in the reverb treatment.
