What's your number one most loved solo ?
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

  • Most days it’s Ladies Nite in Buffalo by DLR. (Steve Vai) . Others it’s I’m Bad (Nationwide) by ZZ Top

  • 'Wait' by Vito Bratta (White Lion) is simply superb. Short but amazingly sweet. Technically jawdropping but full of emotion. Most importantly it fits the song perfectly. It couldn't be better.

What I said last time is below and can be found at the following link: https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/161496/favourite-solo-of-all-time/p3

"Picking one is a problem. These are my top three that immediately spring to mind.
    Kid Charlemagne - Larry Carlton
    Big Trouble - Steve Vai
Get The Funk Out - Nuno Bettencourt"

If I had to pick one, today I'll go for: Kid Charlemagne - Larry Carlton

When this question is asked again next year, I might go for one of the others :)

    It's not a competition.

  • Adrian Smith's solo on Stranger In A Strange Land. Starts around 3:15. Love the way it builds. And Steve Harris' melodic bass work underneath is fabulous too.

For me it’s this, not technically brilliant or fast as lightening or anything like that but just sheer magic to my ears.

i think for me Gilmour's solo from Time is a masterpiece. The sheer expression in that solo moves me no matter how many times I hear it. Just perfect in every way

Robin Trower - My Love (Burning Love)

I'm talking favourites here, Trower has done better solos and much better albums, but this track blew me away when I first heard it 40 years ago and I still love it to bits.

The solos are at 1'48" and 2'49" but listen to the whole track, it's only just over 3 minutes.

tough question, I'll come back with something that's right up there, hard to have a definitive though. I'll look forward to listening to some of these when not at work.

  • There are some great solos, but I always come back to George Harrison for sheer melody and emotion. Probably My Sweet Lord is the best for me- he’s basically repeating the opening motif on the slide, but there’s a gritty and emotional tone that perfectly captures the intense mood of the song.

  • Solo starts at 4 mins but the rest of it is great too

I never know about Best Solo but that song is so famous for it's sax part then it has this great guitar solo which seems to exist largely for idiot DJs to talk over.

Would agree - my other choice would be Guthrie Govan's solo in regret #9 that is a cracker or modern guitar playing.
