    I like the thought of the Marshall types as i guess they would be less likely to hurt hands

    Not fitted them in that amp, check the clearances around the speaker. 

    If you have a jig saw and a router it is pretty easy to cut out the side of a cabinet,  make a template first and use that to ensure you don't damage the tolex.

    I would try to find the correct Mesa lift-up type handles and not Marshall-type recessed ones, which also avoids that problem. Not that it *really* matters, I just prefer to do things 'like factory' if at all possible.

    Until I got fed up of moving it, yes. Even then I might have kept it, but I had some medical advice I thought I'd better heed.

    I would go with the black - no-one will notice the wrong number of screws, especially as the amp is smaller than a Trem-o-verb.
